TUL Corporation - A leading manufacturer of AMD graphics cards, today announced the new generation of enthusiast graphics cards - The PowerColor HD 4870 and HD 4850. Based on the RV770 core chip, the PowerColor HD 4870/4850 support GDDR3/GDDR5 high-speed memory and aim to deliver superior visual performance.

The PowerColor HD 4800 series has adopted 55nm technology and is powered by ATI's Radeon HD 4800 graphics processing units. The HD 4870 GPU and memory run at 750 MHz and 900 MHz respectively, with 512MB of GDDR5 on a 256-bit memory bus design and memory data transmission rates up to 3.6 Gbps. As for the HD 4850, it's equipped with 512 MB of GDDR3 on a 256-bit memory bus design, whilst the GPU and memory run at 625 MHz and 1986 MHz respectively.

The PowerColor HD 4800 series offers Microsoft DirectX 10.1, PCI Express 2.0, on-chip HDCP, built-in HDMI with 7.1 surround audio, and also support for Shader Model 4.1, Universal Video Decode 2, and ATI CrossFireX technology.

With all the aforementioned 3D graphic features, the PowerColor HD 4800 series assures users of an incredible visual performance whilst at the same time, generously providing Dual Dual-Link DVI and H.264, VC-1 and MPEG-2 video encoding program output support, to deliver an unsurpassed image on a high definition 30 inch LCD with resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600. All in all, users have even more choices for experiencing phenomenal 3D entertainment.

"The PowerColor HD 4800 series brings the latest and greatest technology into a competitive product line." says Ted Chen, CEO of TUL Corporation. "PowerColor aims to satisfy the toughest customers' demands; and I believe we can do it with this new generation of graphics cards."

i'd like to see a 4870X2 vs a GTX280 X2

then factor in price and i'll be able to make my decision, im definitely going the dual GPU route since im planning on getting a 2560x1600 monitor.

Hey, ATI vendors -- now that ATI has independent shader speeds just like Nvidia, you have to start listing what they are in these promos, too. :p

actually this series of cards still have the same clock on the shaders as the cores....however the next iteration of ati gpus, ati have stated themselves that they will see if their archi...will benefit from having higher clocked shaders. they did also say that it was a lil too late to have it implemented in the r770

With a GPU the size of a small car I doubt there will be a GTX 280X2. If there is, a new case layout will be released along with it. If it were released now, it'd cost about as much as a month's worth of rent in NYC.

But yeah. I'd like to see that.
