Problem with a Dell e1505/6400 Laptop (heat)

So, I'm not sure which problem started first, but within the past week, my Hardrive has started going a bit slower than usual, and when I ran the Dell diagnostics I got an error code 1000-1046 for failing DST short test.

When I googled around about this error, almost everyone said it meant the Hard Drive has failed, and you need to buy a new one. I'm not too sure if this is correct though, as I can still boot into Windows, plus when I ran fujitsu diagnostics on the HD it came up with no error...

Next problem.... On the far right side of the screen there is a single column of blue pixels, when I move the screen a certain way (and hold it) they go away. I'm guessing/hoping this may be a problem with the LCD cable and not the LCD itself?

Last issue, the laptop as of late has been burning hot on the right side, near HD/cpu etc. When I checked Notebook Hardware control it reports a HD temp of 53c and cpu temp of 34c. Seems like maybe the HD really is the issue?

Anyhow, any advice/help would be appreciated. BTW, the notebook is not under warranty anymore.

to be blunt: bad news.

that blue line on hte LCD most likely means somethings damaged, Luke (forum name) has a laptop with the same issue, and its not cable on him. We've pulled his laptop apart tons of times and it didnt fix it at all.

go into device manager, look for IDE channels and see if the HDD is in PIO mode. it should be in Ultra DMA mode. PIO is a fallback when errors happen, and causes slowdowns.

Yeah, I've taken the laptop apart a couple times now, and can't seem to see anything unusual.

I remember checking the Hard Drive mode earlier, and believe it was in Ultra DMA mode. I'll check again to make sure.

Also, try cleaning any dust out of vents, and maybe try the hard drive in another laptop; that should tell you if the HDD is the source of the heat.
The temps aren't too bad for a HDD after a lot of use; mine usually gets up to 52 - 53 on a warm day after an hour or so...

for the line problem, try attaching it to another monitor if the lines arent there, then theres probably a problem with the laptops screen, which has been documented on many many many many many....ect... laptop screens
something to try is this: http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Stuck-Pixel-on-an-LCD-Monitor i've never had to try it but have a software version on my jump drive non the less lol

for the hdd, does the computer support smart? go into bios and make sure its on if it does... then see what it says

as for it running hot you could attempt applying some non conductive thermal paste (mx-2, Ceramique, ect) and see if that helps...

hope i was a little bit of help but, good luck.
