X1950XT dying? (Screen shot)

Well this has started happening in some of the games I play, could my X1950XT be dying?

I play alot of Flight Sims and to get "smoother" framerates at high settings I have my card OC'ed. The stock clocks for my card are 621mhz core and 802 Mhz mem, I have it OC'ed to 675mhz core and 855 mhz mem when I play games. The max OC I have ever had out of it was 702mhz Core and 882Mhz mem and it benched stable at those speeds. Now every so often it does this in games, I have tested the temps and it never gets over 57C OC'ed at max load in games. :ohwell:

You're talking about the black smudges, right? It looks to me that you're card is getting so hot that it's smoking!

In all seriousness, it's probably a driver issue. Artifacts from a bad card usually manifest as colored shapes appearing on-screen, while artifacts caused by driver problems usually cause geometry to appear incorrectly ingame. This looks more like the latter to me, so update or roll-back your drivers to a different version.

EDIT: Oh, I guess that smoke in the first picture is actually supposed to be there . . . Anyway, those anomalous textures just lend support to it being a driver issue.

the bad textures would show up from too much ram OC. you cant comment on temps because only the GPU would be reported.

the *FIRST* thing to do WHENEVER this happens is turn off overclocking! you force it, and you'll kill the card.

Well with the card at stock I get worse FPS in my flight sims=[ err cant wait to build new comp....

Card is dying.. you were naive enough to OC with the stock cooler wernt you?

Rule of thumb, NEVER OC with the stock cooler, your asking for trouble. The ONLY time anyone can even contemplate OCing with a stock cooler is if the system has exceptional airflow and have put the wrenchtime in by taking the stock cooler off and lapping\modding it where needed to make it something halfway decent.

Ketxxx, did you bother to at least read my System Specs? :rolleyes:

I have a modded Artic accellero X2 that has a 120mm fan blowing through it(idle is 41c load is 57c). The card has never overheated except when I put a VF900cu on it.... I think thats what made it unstable now, from when it overheated to 94C for 3 hours because of the VF900...

I returned the VF900 and put the X2 back on it and got good temps again.

I think it died...

Well after playing Hellgate: london for 4-5 hours a sit down the past couple of days with the card at stock when I did an artifact scan today this is what happened:

It never did this until today..

Set clocks back to factory, and uninstall drivers. Then reinstall. This might help some.

It is on factory settings, I guess I could try drivers.

Looking through the log file it never went over 58.8 Celsius while playing games, and it Idles at 40c.

Should I get a new video card? I have had this one well over a year and half. =[

I dont know what video card would be good for my system thats cheap =/ In a few months I want to upgrade my whole system but I need somthing for this until then..

Just a simple question from me, Have you cleaned it yet?

Nearly every card I've owned with fan cooling at some point has had issues like that.. I usually just remove the HSF and brush off all the dust and reinstall.. It'd be worth the try if you're not looking to upgrade yet..

this is not a bad idea. cleaning dust off the card and heatsink, and checking the thermal grease as well as whether or not the fan spins is something we tend to assume people have done, as its obvious to us.

dust bunnies and static electricity yay!

thermal paste becomes ineffective over time.

if you need a new card a 9600/3800 should do you just fine and be able to be transferred to your future sys

I just put the cooler back on the card, of course I cleaned it, I also reaplied the thermal paste(Artic Silver 5) . The card isnt overheating its max load temp is 58C.

with a crossfire board, i'd heartily reccomend a 3850... or two. just make sure to get 512MB models.
