Hmmm I've got a Lanbox, nice little setup, here but I'm wondering If I should do anymore work on it.

My current setup.

Case TT Lanbox w/handle swapped front 90mm fan and rear fans with 60mm
Proc: AMD phenom X3 8450 replaced with tt s939 hsf
Mobo: gigabyte 780G s2h mobo with a tt fan on the northbridge, my 4850 covers up my barely gets clearance over the southbridge.
Vid card: Powercolor radeon 4850 w/reference cooler 512mb
mem: 4gb OCZ platinum ddr2 1066
psu: Xigmatek 650w psu
sound card: soundblaster xfi xtreme gamer
monitor: Viewsonic 19 inch super high res monitor.

I'm try decide on a good upgrade path here but I feel like I'm gonna end up wasting money if I put anymore energy into it. I planned this guy out pretty well but dunno some things just feel kinda awkward only hit 9k in 3d mark 06...

Well since DFI will put out the 790GX next week I'm wondering if I should get that board or not, I think it would be a cool upgrade but I dunno If I would ever utilize crossfire though, I feel like I"m gonna need a new psu if I decide to do 2 or 3 way.

Think I should I push for it or no??

further more, hmm is there more ways to put fans in the Lanbox I just been wondering. I was thinking about ducktaping some fans to the hdd cage and such. but I dunno

You have no need to upgrade.
If anything pick up a 9850 or 9950BE.
If you want a higher 06 score OC your phenom.
As for cooling I know Wolf mounted a 140mm Antec Big Boy blowing straight down through his case.

If 3Dmarks are important to you, grab an Intel setup with a Quad. If not, just stick with what you have, and OC it a bit. Maybe just buy a 20" monitor or something.

Yea I looked at his box, thought it was the qmicra for a sec, and then realized it was a mod :wtf:

um but I took some pics of the case, I think I might try working oc'ing the phenom I have although I heard the HT was locked on these so I don't think I'll be seeing that much of boost, but I dunno I'll look over that article and see whats up,

I'm still debating the monitor...gets the same res as a 22 inch 1680x1050.

I have considered going the intel route too, but haven't seen an matx board on the other side that interested me that much outbeside the DFI lp jr that just came out.

I dunno I might hold out for deneb but I got no idea when thats coming out same with heka and regor.

You don't even need a quad - an E8400 on a good Intel mobo for great 3DM06 will work, but since you've already invested in the 780g AMD system I would keep it and not worry about 3DM06 -- you'll still get the high FPS in games. Like the above poster said I would invest in a 20-22" LCD. Sometimes a better overall computing experience is better then the often pursued high benchmark (IMO), and you can transfer that LCD later on to your next build and also have your 19" for a dual monitor setup.

Didn't realize your monitor is already 1680x1050. In that case, just stick with what you have, and buy yourself something nice with the extra money. lol.

Your performance is pretty good, why don't you spend some money on decent speakers/headphones & a sound card, if you don't already have one?

yea thats probably a good idea, my speakers are Logitech X 540's, and for sound card I dunno what would be better than the Xfi's they basically seem the same, same hardware just more money.

Guess I'll wait till next year to get a monitor when 24 inches go down in price. uh hmm I guess no reason to up the card because I can't game at a high res, swap the cooling on in it, idles at about 80C, I swapped the thermal paste and it didn't do anything....

darn 24's are so expensive :banghead:
same with the 4870 :banghead:

oh well...

I hope a mod can move this into the upgrading section, well I decided no major upgrades, except for mobo and proc, the Mobo I think I will just aim for the 790GX to get sb 750, for better OC, and hope a 45nm proc comes in like deneb or heka, either one works, after that I'm pretty much done with it, outbeside swapping the cooling on the vid card, and looking forward to crossfire thats about it...
