everybody told me that the x800gto is several times better than my 5900xt... so i picked one up and here are my 3dmark03 scores...

p4 2.4b oc'd to 2.73
1gb corsair xms
catalyst 6.3 x800gto 3dmark03 7100 avg.
geforce fx 5900xt 3dmark03 5700 avg.

is this because my cpu sucks? or something is terribly wrong?
please help thanks!

something is way wrong. my x800gto was over 13k on 3D03. What mobo?

The mobo is made forAGP 4X. The X800 is new tech and made for the AGP 8X and PCI 16.

I think thats ur main problem. Did you uninstall the old card before you put the X800 in? Are you using the newest DX-9? Try the 6.4 drivers (i use them) Or a lot of people here like the Omega drivers. They say the Catalyst is a CPU hog..

yeah i completely uninstalled nvidia. 6.4 was giving me lockups so i went to 6.3. I will check out the omega drivers. something interesting though was when i ran aquamark3 my cpu score went down by 3000 but my video score went up by 2k.

I agree with markkleb, your probably losing performance due to the mobo only being AGP 4x :(
Have you tried looking for an updated BIOS for your mobo as that sometimes helps :)

You could also give the Omega drivers a go ;)

He might lose 500pts or so on 4X instead of 8X, but the difference between 4X and 8X is almost nil in real life. I have tested that out on quite a few cards. There must be some other issue, like old drivers still in there or motherboard drivers missing. I would avoid the omega junky drivers and stick to the Catalyst 6.3's. THey do not hog CPU time and are the best to use. If your Aquamark CPU score went down and the GFX went up then the problem is not with your card but with your system. Try reinstalling your motherboard drivers, then reinstall the ATI drivers.

well i installed the latest mobo drivers, then reinstalled directx 90c then reinstalled cat 6.3. my cpu score is still 3000 lower than before in aquamark3... i have a 380W truepower ps so I unplugged all my nonessential stuff and reran aquamark but no difference.

Your CPU is the bottleneck. 2.7ghz is too slow to keep up. Turn AA/AF on and it will shine.

I agree with the CPU bottleneck. I upgraded from an Athlon XP 3000+ to an Athlon 64 3000+, and I saw a 300 point increase in 3dmark05. I also saw games like Oblivion and F.E.A.R running faster. Combine his CPU and AGP 4X, you could come up with some pretty shitty scores.

but my cpu score on aquamark3 should go down ? everything is the same except the video card. i would expect the cpu score to stay the same.

300 points is not the same as 6000. If he should be doing 13k then something is way wrong.

Reinstalling XP cleared up 4K of problems in 2K1 I spent hours trying to figure out where the problem was. Maybe you should start from there.

Make sure you didn't change anything with your CPU recently to make it start throttling. I can't tell you how many problems have been the result of overclocking and throttling.

The CPU score will not drop because of CPU bottleneck. That is completely wrong. There is something causing the CPU to either throttle, or something is not set up properly. I would go over all settings and make double sure all old video drivers are removed. Personally, whenever I install a new video card I do a fresh install just to eliminate those issues. IF possible I also suggest starting from scratch and doing a fresh install. I just don't see that card having that much of a bottleneck. Sure it will, but that would limit the GFX clocks, not lower the CPU clocks 3K. Just do a once over on all your settings/timings. Also, disk cleanup/defrag/spyware/antivirus sweep.

okay i upgraded to sp2 and i've been getting these results... please tell me if they look okay for my system...

pentium 2.4b @ 2.73
albatron px845 pev pro
1gb corsair xms 2-5-2-2 @ 380

3dmark05 4195
3dmark03 8614
aquamark 39606 - 8001 vid, 3922 cpu

my geforce 5900xt had 3dmark03 5690 and aquamark 38100. so is something still wrong with my system or aquamark is just screwy?

That score is way off. Your CPU score should be 7K+. Make double sure everything is right in bios and also the chipset/mobo drivers. You should be getting 50K+ in Aquamark, and most likely 55K+.

Well, as you say, as long as 3D Mark scores are where they belong and games are running properly, I'd also not worry. I am a big Aquamark fan, but it is quite outdated now and is just not what it used to be.

well, your 3D Mark 05 scores look great as they are mostly based on the graphics card. Your 3D Mark 03 score seems low. THat should be 10K plus. That may be due to only single channel for the ram, but that CPU should be a touch faster. How much ram do you have? What exact CPU are you running? This just may be a case of a PC that is unfortunately too outdated to run your card full speed. If you cannot afford a big upgrade, consider getting an 865 Chipset motherboard then you could at least have a full speed AGP port and dual channel ram. List your exact specs with brand names and model numbers of the Mobo, ram, video card if you can.
