What DVI problem??
My problem with DVI is that when i install the drivers the screen has to be turned on and off on boot in order so i can see what im doing it will then flicker on and off for about 20-30mins until it starts to calm down.. i thought it was my monitor and have had that replaced with same model (BenQ FP241WZ). Is that the problem you're talking about? I had also begun to suspect my HD2900 but after not having any ATI drivers it doesn't have that issue!

Its the problem that if you dont have any ati drivers installed, it works perfectly with dvi. But when you install the drivers, and reboot, you arent getting anything on the screen! same thing i had with the 3870, but i only had to do a bios flash on that one to get it to work.

That's really odd. First thing I would have done would have been to change the DVI cable - you've probably done that. 2nd thing I would have done would be to check each DVI port - again, you've probably done that.

Have both your cards been Sapphire, as in your 3870 and 4850?

Oh so its the same as my problem, did you try and turn the monitor on and off again? I was having such a nightmare and had to remove the driver and change alternate dvi mode or something ridiculous!

Wow, I honestly thought I was the only one! Maybe I should flag this up with an ATI engineer? Can I ask what resolution you are running at and also what monitor(s) you've used and had the problems with? That way I can give a more detailed query to the driver engineers!

I have RBE modded BIOSes too, and I have NO video with 8.8 and 8.9 after install. I'm gonna try reflashing to stock, and then see what happens.

I have early Asus 4850 BBAs, 3 in crossfire. What a PITA

I got the 8.9s to install with a modded bios (visiontek bios), changed voltages/fan ramp/overdrive limit. Rebooted, ati ccc said no ati adapter found. Rebooted again, samething but this time in device manager the standard VGA were noticed as ATI cards. So just rebooted again and it's been working since. This is in Vista Business 64bit.

Mine is modded to 1.158v high 3d and has the overdrive signature from the asus 4850 top injected into it.I works fine on cat 8.8/9 with a 800/1300 limit on overdrive.

If you have used rbe to mod your bios and set the voltage to over 1.158,it will not work with cat 8.8/9.Any voltage above 1.158v set with rbe will NOT work,1.158v is the max.

It's SOOOOO important to mess up the graphics cards of your paying customers isn't it ATI, geez.. I'm very curious who the hell thought that up and why they wasted engineering effort on making drivers that have code for messing up cards that are modded, people BUY the cards and then OWN them you know ATI.

Not everyone is an enthusiast and mod their cards. ATi are only doing what they think needs to be done and anyone that does anything that isn't running the card at stock isn't ATi's problem. Yeah, they may know that people OC, mod the BIOS etc etc, but they don't officially support it. It's like voiding your warranty but not to the same degree. So they're not purposely messing up drivers for people with modded cards.

After installing 8.9 Mass Effect crashes to desktop after launch. Rolled back to 8.8 and all is well. This is under Vista 64 with 4870.

Excuse me? I think the law would actually say otherwise, and what's the 'only doing what they think needs to be done'? WHY do they think they NEED to mess up their own product? To help nvidia?

There are too many people killing their own cards and wanting ATI to replace them for free. It's lieing and thievery, would you not agree. Everyone's doing it. If people would admit they killed thier own card and buy another one, maybe ATI would not do this.

They aren't messing up their own product... the stock and stock oc cards still work fine. The thing they are trying to stop is exactly what r1rhyder posted. It's the "enthusiast's" that kill their cards and then send in for an rma saying they did nothing wrong.

They don't think they're messing anything up, on the contrary! I don't understand your short sightedness. Every machine is different, so obviously people will have the same issue, similar issues and different issues - ATi have their customers in their best interests. Why on earth would they work against their supply of income?

I don't know what your guys problems are...

I used at least 1 dvi at all times, and sometimes both, I had a modified bios and have succesfuly run all the drivers.

I also have about as original batch as the 4850's get, I bought one before they were put on the shelf at bestbuy :)

Don't know how many people are still using AGP, but apparently Sapphire have the 8.9's working for them. I'll try 'em out now.

Sapphire Driver Download page.

XP users (such as myself) have to use a German version of CCC if they want them. A tad lame that.
