Corsair Hydro Series H50 CPU Liquid Cooler
Just wondering if the Corsair Hydro Series H50 CPU Liquid Cooler is any good and if I install a Delta AFB1212SHE 120x120x38mm 3700RPM 151.85CFM Super High Speed Fan, will it help the H50 cool the CPU better.
|
IIRC when the news post hit here, someone stated it was another kit with a corsair sticker. Cant remember which one tho offhand.
|
Yeah, I think it's actually made by Asetek but Corsair has the rights for it. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So if I install a better and stronger fan like the Delta AFB1212SHE 120x120x38mm Super High Speed Fan on the H50, then it'll help it cool the CPU much better. But would this cooler be good for my Q9650 Yorkfield 45nm Quad?
|
LOl, I wouldnt say "Much" better, a little better yes.
|
Well, a little better is still better. LOL
Corsair says that it'll cool a Core i7 969 that's overclocked at 3.46GHz with a VCore of 1.3V to around 38°C at idle and around 56°C at full load. How will that translate to my Q9650 that's overclocked at 4.05GHz with a VCore of 1.375V? |
no clue.
But those temps look similar to good air cooling. Honestly for low end to middle of the road the Corsair should be fine, but there is no way the small pump and rad will be similar to a real H20 setup. Your question to me is like "I have a Ferrarri and need a rad, can I get one out of a 71 Pinto to work?" Just seems silly.. Honestly I am a super cheapskate so I understand the need for "Value" but Like a PS I would go High end if I had a comp that cool (oh wait I do:laugh:) I think Coolermaster made one of the first all in 1 kits like that a while ago...I tried one and it was 1 notch below junk. This one looks better than that though. |
Is just that because ever since I lapped my CoolIT Systems Freezone Elite MTEC CPU Liquid Cooler, it hasn't been as effective as before. I had a Q6600 that was overclocked at 3.40GHz with a VCore of 1.435V and my Freezone Elite (which I swapped the original fan with a Delta AFB1212SHE Super High Speed Fan) would be able to cool it down to around 23°C at idle and around 45°C at full load. But now, after lapping my Freezone Elite while I was waiting for my Q9650 to arrive, it doesn't even cool it down to as close to how it cooled my Q6600.
I have my Q9650 overclocked to 4.05GHz with a VCore of 1.375V and my Freezone Elite is only able to cool it down to around 35°C at idle and around 60°C at full load. I guess I messed up my Freezone Elite when I lapped it somehow and I was just wondering if the H50 was any good as a replacement. |
its up to you (im not a big fan of online reviews) but here is one to look at.

Thanks for that review MKmods! :)
I think I'm going to just get the Swiftech H20-220-APEX ULTIMA Complete CPU Liquid Cooling Kit. I found one at DirectCanada for only $231.58 CAD, it's just within my price range. Because I don't have enough to get another Freezone Elite, which is about $400.00 CAD. |
If you look around here (FS thread) you should be able to put together that kit for half the cost.
|
Good idea! :)

A year later and the truth unfolds: the h50 performs as good,if not better than the vast majority of top of the line air coolers. the stock fan that comes with the rad is a joke, moral of the story, never listen to anyone who starts their sentences with lol. |

@OP: Yes the Delta Fan will make a difference over the stock Corsair fan. You can also look into shrouds or a push/pull fan configuration for good results as well.:) |

I had a H50 on my i7. I must say my old IFX-14 ran it cooler than the H50 did. But one thing I never tried until I mounted the H50 in my other rig with the Q6600 was having the air for the rad drawn from outside the case. I can tell you that is the only way to run the H50 and get half decent temps.
|
nvm.
|
some folks seem to forget that the H50 is an enrty level cpu cooler. its not intended to run like a full blown w/c system. its ment to compete with other entry level coolers like the Cool It. Its also ment to rival hsf stack coolers and let those w/ little money to "get their feet wet". there are other folks in this forum who have had both and will tell you that the H50 holds its own against other "more expensive" hsf tower coolers.;)

How did you lap your cooler? Really odd that performance goes down after lapping. Maybe you used too much thermal paste?
