GTX 200 series price drop, how long?
Just wondering how long it might take for another price drop in 200 cards. Looking to get another gtx 260 for another system ive built.
The one I own is xfx, for the other system was going to get the same but newegg seems not carry it anymore. Or any xfx nvidia card gtx 200s or 400s for that matter. Have always bought xfx with video cards. But, guess I will be going evga this time. Anyways back to the question. Since the new 400s. How long do you believe before the price falls down some and how much? Like right now evga gtx 260 is around $215 When will it reach say $160-180 area? |
provably never, at least not an official price drop from Nvidia. I think that they will stick with those prices until the fermi mid-range cards arrive.

maybe a second hand card?

Woo I found a answer today searching around :rockout:, guess they annoucned back on the 8th/9th though, old news now i guess.
Although price I keep seeing is around $260 for the 460 in June. The current 260s are about 200 to 220. So they better drop down to 160-180 I hope .:ohwell: Also I don't buy second hand parts when it comes to electronics. |
Don't you already get GTX 260 in the sub-$200 range? Look for brands such as Sparkle, Galaxy, and Palit. They're cheap.

Eh, I prefer EVGA or XFX and they are priced around 210-220. Palit is only 10$ cheaper at 210 and not a name I know to trust from my experiance. Those prices come from newegg and tigerdirect.
EDIT:Also newegg only has evga left, between xfx and evga anyways. I only order from newegg since so far no reason not trust them :). @180 card. Mail in rebate :/.. ends before june also. I'm just hoping they all drop to that price no rebate when 460 comes out. |
I don't think they'll drop for a while, not until Fermi derivatives start rolling out anyways, but that's in june/july.

The 200 series have held their prices very well, after the initial substantial price cuts in 2008/2009, so I don't think they'll sink much lower. They are still excellent cards too - my Zotac GTX 285 still works like a champ in every respect.
When the Fermi derivatives come out, I reckon you'll see a big price cut for a short while (week or two max) until the retailers clear out their inventory. Then they will disappear off the shelves, never to be seen again and the Fermi based cards will take over their price points. |
Never to be seen again except for by e-sellers in their many variations. :p
The only thing that really makes me want to upgrade my 8800gtx is dx11. It still performs admirably in every game I play. Just cause 2 runs at near max and looks gorgeous. Bioshock 2, mass effect 2, all gorgeous and at absolute max settings. That's longevity and bang for the buck, minus the whole "broke hdmi compliance" thing. I just ordered a 5850 from newegg, reference design to overclock the crap out of it. :) Time to try ATI, dam that's a good slogan, they should pay me for that. IMO being that the reference design 5850 can hit the clock speed of the 5870 just makes it the sensible approach. When the 6xxx series comes out, time to sell. |
i saw some deal online second hand for gtx280 180$shipped i forget were tho ill see if i can find it

First you need NV product that is faster and occupying same price point. And there is no such ting.
