Which PSU?

I wanna buy a new psu, had my current one since I bought my setup in 2007/2008. Looking to spend $100-130. Any of these good?

Corsair one.

burebista May 23, 2010 10:54 AM

Antec TP New followed by Corsair .
But Seasonic S12II 620 looks appealing too. If $8 is over budget you can take 520 model.

I have the xigmatek and it works gr8 so far , powering a gtx 275 and a q6600. The gigabyte is supposed to be bad. The ocz looks like good value and corsair is well corsair (i.e. gr8)

AlienIsGOD May 23, 2010 12:19 PM

My vote is for the Corsair, followed by the Antec then the OCZ one

[Ion] May 23, 2010 12:41 PM

You guys really get shafted for prices over there in the AU. The Corsair is a good choice, a SeaSonic M12II would be excellent, or, as a last resort, the OCZ ModXStream is an OK modular PSU, but not nearly as good in build quality as SeaSonic/Corsair. The Xigmatek could be OK, but I've read reports of them being just "meh" in comparison to Corsair/SeaSonic, so I'd choose a different one.

Mussels May 23, 2010 12:46 PM

i would pick corsair above all else.

for example:

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?..._354&vk_sort=1

while they have a higher price on the 650 (which is an older model, btw) the 550W is cheaper and i still consider it superior to your other alternatives from IJK.

JrRacinFan May 23, 2010 01:20 PM

For all, the Xigmatek is also built by CWT, same OEM as the Corsair. With that said if you can find the Xigmatek cheaper somewhere then go that route.

Guys Antec TP New is based on newer Seasonic S12D design. Corsair TX650 is based on older Seasonic Energy+ design.
But at least both are Seasonic based. :D

TheMailMan78 May 23, 2010 01:24 PM

Enermax makes the best PSU IMO. Followed by Corsair and Antec. Just be ready to have the funds pulled from your rectum with Enermax.

Please, please, link me to a source where its SeaSonic built. I'm sorry but I thought it was CWT.:)

burebista May 23, 2010 01:33 PM

There isn't an absolute best PSU. There are models good here and here and they have caveats there and there.
IMO ATM Seasonic X series are the pack leader. From build to performance and silence. But of course picking a PSU is a subjective choice. :)

BarbaricSoul May 23, 2010 01:38 PM

persoanlly, I'd go with the proven performer, Corsair

I was talking bout the Corsair, silly. :p

Already knew the Antec was SS based, but split rail design makes me gag.

burebista May 23, 2010 01:45 PM

WOW, Corsair TX650 is old story it didn't cross my mind that you don't know that it's a Seasonic. :p

CTW makes the VX550w, TX750w, TX850w, TX950w, HX1000w, HX850w, and HX750w. The CX400w, VX450w, HX520w, HX620/650w, and TX650w are SeaSonic.

linky

TheMailMan78 May 23, 2010 02:07 PM

You'll have to do some research to find a bum Enermax.

Well no brand is perfect. But my point is Enermax makes thier own PSUs.

roast May 23, 2010 02:20 PM

Another +1 for the corsair. Great brand. :)

Get the Cooler Master, cheaper and does the same thing. We need to make a debate thread about Corsair PSU's. I really don't know why people insist on using them so much

because cooler master PSU's have a wonder tendency to blow up, catch fire, and destroy everything in your PC?

Aleksander May 23, 2010 04:11 PM

The XFX 650W is one of the best buys i have ever seen and the design looks extremely cool.
It is in the price range you are trying to buy. It sells for 99$
There is another option for more power, the 750W one, but it sells for 135$ or more.

Its always the cheap PSU which fails first in my house. Good enough reason? ( I wasn't the one who built those rigs :p)

The only CoolerMaster which is honest is Silent Pro. Their flagship UCP is overpriced/overrated and the rest, meh. Extreme Power 400, ElitePower 460, ExtremePower 550.

Because they have a good price/performance/noise ratio? Because they shook PSU market when they entered for first time? Because awesome customer support and warranty?
