Gainward GTS 450 GOOD Low-Profile Card Pictured, Taken Apart
 

Palit's subsidiary Gainward has a low-profile GeForce GTS 450 graphics card in the making, much like Palit's card. Both these are yet to ship to major markets. In the mean time, Korean website Brainbox.com did a picture preview of Gainward's card, called GTS 450 GOOD Low-Profile. The pictures reveal a neatly-designed PCB and cooler assembly modeled along the lines of high-end graphics cards in which hot air is directed right out of the case. The assembly includes a blower, a shroud that directs air-flow, a large heatsink with densely packed aluminum fins that channel air through, and a heatsink over the MOSFETs.

The PCB seats the GF106 GPU right in the middle. While it looks long, it's only because the PCB is half-height to give that illusion. In reality the PCB is 7.4" long, not longer than the full-height NVIDIA reference PCB, and should fit in most SFF cases that have two expansion slots. The PCB uses a simple 4-phase VRM driven by an ON-Semi controller, there are four GDDR5 memory chips on either sides of the PCB, totaling 1 GB. The clock speeds stick to NVIDIA reference: 783/1566/900(3600) MHz, display outputs include and are limited to one DVI and an HDMI. Power is drawn in from one 6-pin PCI-E power connector facing downwards à la Radeon HD 4870 X2. Gainward's card may charge a slight premium over the full-height cards, for the convenience it offers. The design is horrible. Specially the fan.

I think you must be mistaking design for colour, I personally think the design is good, though orange fan and red pcb I would have to agree, not my piece of cake.

Yeah it's mainly the colour. And the fan can look cooler.

i think is very good looking and the cooler system seems efficent

It will be fine for something that produces little to no heat.

I wonder if that fan is a hair dryer. I'd like to see more cards for low profile though.

This is the MUST card for physx in an AMD RADEON powered system.

And yes they should put a Radeon sticker on it to boost sales.

Fairly simple design

Looks kindof cute, a true little brother/sister to the high end line.


I think the best part is that it's a low enough power part that they can get boards like this introduced less than a week after launch. Wouldn't mind building a SFF PC up with one of these in it.

I really want to see some reviews of this card, mianly for noise levels and temps as i would love to stick this in my htpc to get it folding and some sofa baised gaming.

I actually have the Palit version of this card and trust me it runs too hot! The card gets do hot that you can't even touch it. I would recommend under clocking the card or getting an after market cooler, but that defeats the purpose of having the low profile. Or get a version of the gts 450 with a much better cooler.

they need to make a better PCB and get rid of the stupid 6PIN PCIE connector like powercolor did with the HD4830 green (witch is actually an HD4850).

since vapor chambers are so cheap now, why don't they use them on things like these?...

Definitely a decent bit faster than a 9600GT in gaming, and packs way more sp's for folding. not to mention newer technology like HDMI 1.4a, and it will be in the spotlight for driver performance increases for some time to come, where the 9600GT's time for driver performance increases seems to have long since passed.

I was thinking this cooler could be a hec of a lot better than just an aluminium slab with fins, it could have a small v/chamber, use a copper base and/or some heatpipes... It would drive the price up a tad but I think it's already expected to cost more than a reference card.

It it just me, or does it seam the Gainward and Palit cards are exactly the same?

Either way, it might make a good upgrade for anyone with a small form factor case.

I don't get all the complaints about the looks. It just looks like an ati card, like a mini X2.

i feel alittle everytime i see they release a new card isn't that the Palit even the article says Gainward or the other way around :wtf:

same factory brah :) aka same parent company I believe, just different markets (as in areas of sale)
