Hexen: Edge of Chaos teaser trailer and release date.

I have been following this Doom 3 total conversion for 5 long years. It has a new take on the classic Hexen. The wait is almost over. November 2010 is the release date. In the mean time, check out the Story Journals and the Screen Shots

OMG that was the worst fucking trailer ever. It was just a still image and some chick talking about something.

Are they bringing back DX7b or something. I don't think I want to play throwback games.

Yeah, just a teaser, not exactly a full trailer. Check out the screen shots. It's the doom3 engine, so DX9.

Maps look blocky and very bsp-like. Like some map designs of 3rd party maps for quake-based games..

like this one:

Check the height of that sidewalk and how clean it cuts with its adjacent surface.. very unrealistic. They didnt bother to make specific texture for it and align it.

and this: Isnt curved surfaces for bsp introduced in quake3? :D

The Doom 3 engine is limited from what I gather. This is a free mod based off from a very old engine, not like you are going to be paying $50 for it. Maybe you just have to be a Hexen fan, which I admit that I am a rabid fan. Not everything is about eye candy, we will see how the gameplay goes.

I see.. so itll be free?.. yeah, I wont be complaining about that! :D :toast:

Played hexen way back 1997, although I was pretty limited to hexen II.. and only had the demo that came from pcgamer mag cd. Lol. Great game for its time imo.

Yep, absolutely free. The only thing you will have to have is Doom 3 installed.

I remember how i played this on old pc about 13years ago.But i guess not much has improved for this game except graphics :d

Goodman Nov 1, 2010 07:11 PM

That looks more like Doom Remake , it's doesn't look like a new game at all

But still i would play it , i love older games :)

MadClown Nov 1, 2010 09:29 PM

i still have my hexen floppys lying around somewhere

francis511 Nov 2, 2010 12:45 AM

Kinda meh actually

JC316 Nov 2, 2010 02:00 AM

Hexen itself was kinda meh at the time. Everyone was still interested in Doom, Duke Nukem, and the other heavy weights. Something about that game though, its my favorite from all of them. Been waiting on a Hexen 3 forever now, so this is exciting to me. A group of guys did what ID and Raven wouldn't.

francis511 Nov 2, 2010 03:29 AM

And what ever happened to Rage ???

Quite entirely different. In a time where plasma guns and big effin guns ruled, hexen was there to cover something of a medieval era period fps. Basically, is lacking in FPS as well nowadays.. this ones to fill that gaping genre hole.

I am sure the graphics would be about the same as the new one, though I doubt that will work on W7.

1Kurgan1 Nov 3, 2010 03:29 PM

It should work on W7, but speaking generally as I'm not sure about Hexen specifically. but games of that date are normally 256 colors and require you to do a color fix to fill in spots, otherwise it ends up looking crazy. Sometimes you can alt tab and do random tricks to get them to work, but just better off doing the color fix, sadly the fix for any that I seen is, it temporarily kills explorer, then when you close the game it starts explorer again, and if it doesn't restart it, time to reboot the comp :(

Kreij Nov 3, 2010 03:36 PM

The original Hexen had pretty high system requirements. Make sure your hardware is up to snuff ...
Quote:

486/33 or higher.
MS-DOS 5.0 or higher.
25MB of available Hard Disk Space.
8MB of RAM.
VGA graphics.
Supports joystick and mouse.
Supports Sound Blaster and 100% compatible sound cards
:p

That is what you need. I play it all the time with Vista.

Got DOOM 3 on my signature CPU so I'll try this out for sure if its free. Can't get the wide screen to work right though. Went to widescreen Solutions page and still can't.
