Best full-tower case for overclock build

Haylo!

Guys i'm looking into getting a case for building a Intel overclocker system. So obviously, I want the best case for airflow(If I had some cardboard and all five of my dogs ran away i'd just throw it on the floor on top of the air vent, but thats not gonna happen). I've always wanted a test bench, but I know nothing about them. Looking into building off the cheapest i7 i can get. Im probably gonna have more questions with this.

and im looking as cheap as I can get (I haz havin' baby girl)

Thankzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,

guiiiz :D

I would look at the CM Elite 4xx cases, they seem to be very cheap and good, some NZXT cases, and CM 690 II. If you are overclocking the system you have in your specs, I think airflow would not matter so much as long as you have an intake fan in front and an exhaust at the back. No need HAF style cases. Alternatively, you can run with the side panel off.

Hmm well you want a full tower? The haf 932 and haf x are sweet. Or the 800d's are also really neat. You gotta give us your budget or we can go crazy with suggestions :p

EDIT: The NZXT Phantom is a very good case is a full tower and comes in thee different colors, red white and black. The all black is $99 on new egg and the white and red one's are $139.99. Inside comes pre painted black where as the 932's don't.

Check them out

I say NZXT phantom or haf 932 as well.
But if you can find a good deal on the case i have, the Coolermaster ATCS 840, i would highly recommend it. Since it has a 230mm fan at the front, 2 230mm fans on top and a 120mm fan at the back stock, out of the box.

I beg to differ, my 932 came prepainted on the inside. Just got it in last week from NewEgg.

Most 932's don't? What edition did you get?:wtf: Hmm that's pretty neat if they actually come in black now

I like the Antec 1200 case. Look at the different Antec cases.

Hi. I'd recommend you to check the refurbished section of the coolermaster store. I've paid my stacker (which was listed at 150$) 50$, and a i7 920@4.0ghz setup with three video cards and 7 hard drive wasn't enough to fill it. That's what i call bang for the buck!

DigitalUK Dec 14, 2010 04:26 PM

the nzxt phantom is a lovely case ive built afew systems lately with these in white and red (the online pictures dont do it justice, much nicer when set up and on),lots and lots of room, cable management is great and air flow is superb. the HAF 932 or X are really good as well

phantom will take a 14.5" card if i remember rightly (HD5870's looked lost in it..lol), comes with everything for water cooling including a little bracket so you can mount the RAD inside on the top of the case.

something abit cheaper maybe to look at the Xclio

I'll admit to being particularly pleased with the CM690 (II), which can often be had from the egg for 50 clams shipped.

It comes with 3x120mm but you can add 4 more (up to 140mm) fans. I bought a whole bunch of Masscool 120mm fans off of mwave for $2 a pop when they had a sale bringing the total case expenditure to only $58.

If time is a factor you may want to look elsewhere though.

I always recommend the Antec 1200

This is one of two lowest priced full towers on Newegg.com, there 110$ shipped

XCLIO Windtunnel Fully Black Finish 1.0 mm SECC Chassis ATX Full Tower Computer Case

I also recommend a bottom mounted PSU if you want to add extra

I'm digging the white NZXT phantom. It looks super sexy and the fact that I can mount the radiator up top makes me smile :D some white tubing :D :D :D . I've never done a water cooling setup so i'm getting into this.

NZXT makes some wonderful cases! if my old NZXT M59 was big enough for the water loop i had i would have kept it.

There is the 932 Black which is what mrw linked to, and there is the standard which is unpainted inside. Two different models ;)

Munki Dec 14, 2010 07:45 PM

This doesn't really make a difference, but there won't be a dedicated video card in this rig. All its for is to overclock and see how far I can push the CPU and might stick a couple terabytes of hard drive space and keep it as a storage server of some sort.

brandonwh64 Dec 14, 2010 07:46 PM

Also like others said, I also love my HAF 932 but it comes with an unpainted inside if thats a deal breaker for ya, then you can get a couple cans of spray paint and paint it

Its not a "big" deal, BUT I would like it to look nice and kinda stick to a theme. With the Nzxt Phantom, the outside corresponds to the inside. Im almost positive I can get my hands on white and/or black tubing. I would think that the watercooling mounts come in a black color. The rad is black for sure.

Yea mine went ok, i did two coats of primer and two coats of gloss black

munki nzxt also do a matching power supply in white as well which looks really nice if you want to push the boat out.

It looks a heck of a lot better than what I can see mine coming out to look like. Im NOT a painter. I hate paint and everything to do with it. If it can come with it on there i'd be most pleased. Although, neighbor is a auto body painter so i'm sure I could convince him to do it for me. The door on the front has that white that specifically matches the other whites. If I were to stick an optical drive in an open front case I can see it not matching. Like the drive maybe a eggshell white or old lady white. Then the whole thing will look tacky :shadedshu

Id have to pass on that. nzxt powering my overclocking machine scares me slightly.

brandonwh64 Dec 14, 2010 08:01 PM

Really wasn't hard to paint. Just do small sprays back and forth with light coats.

Hayder_Master Dec 14, 2010 09:58 PM

this is last look for my 942, just add more 220 fan and led lights:D

it will match, when you open the front door on a white phantom the mesh behind the door is black so a black drive looks nice..
