came as an update on my system today. I didnt install it, But I must say im pissed. Im the person that checks all the updates glances over them and hits go. Which is partially my fault. But if it werent for MSE EULA it would have installed. I dont see how this is a good idea. what if people already have an AV? why would you make something like that an update? its only bound to cause problems

Stuff like this is why I no longer recommend MSE. It's rather invasive. If you turn your auto updates off for instance it will turn them back on and download updates you don't allow.

Actually, I don't get MSE as an option on customer's machines until after I've uninstalled the existing antivirus program.

Correct, the update should only appear on machines that report as not having an Anti-Virus installed. I noticed this behavior when installing Win7 on a customer machine Friday doing the round of updates on it.

I have avast installed and is recognized by my machine as an AV.

That is very odd then. When I installed the customers copy of Kaspersky the update disappeard.

It shouldn't show up if you have a properly functioning AV.

I still don't think it would be much of a problem though. I've never done the install via the update before, but I assume it is similar to IE(being a completely seperate program). Where once you accept the EULA it launches the MSE install wizard which you have to go through before anything is actually installed. So hopefully people would realize what they are doing at some point.

On other machines which use another AV I have never yet seen an update for MSE so far.

I have never seen MSE do this, I have it installed in two 24/7 machines and it has never downloaded windows updates I dont allow...:confused:

Do you leave windows update settings on default? I don't think you'd notice in that case.

My windows updates are on "Notify"

EDIT: And it has never downloaded updates, unless I allow them.
