AMD Ships First ''Bulldozer'' Processors, Available in Q4
Today, AMD (NYSE: AMD) announced revenue shipments of the first processors based on its new x86 “Bulldozer” architecture. Initial production of the world’s first 16-core x86 processor, codenamed “Interlagos,” began in August and shipping to customers is already underway. Compatible with existing AMD Opteron 6100 Series platforms and infrastructure, “Interlagos” is expected to launch and be available in partner systems in the fourth quarter of this year. Many of the initial shipments have been earmarked for large custom supercomputer installations that are now underway.
“This is a monumental moment for the industry as this first ‘Bulldozer’ core represents the beginning of unprecedented performance scaling for x86 CPUs,” said Rick Bergman, senior vice president and general manager, AMD Products Group. "The flexible new ‘Bulldozer’ architecture will give Web and datacenter customers the scalability they need to handle emerging cloud and virtualization workloads.” http://www.techpowerup.com/img/11-09-07/42b_thm.jpg http://www.techpowerup.com/img/11-09-07/42a_thm.png http://www.techpowerup.com/img/11-09-07/42d_thm.png http://www.techpowerup.com/img/11-09-07/42c_thm.png For more information, visit the pages of Opteron 6000 series and Opteron 4000 series. |

Glad to see it. Now we can Finlay expect the FX.
Congrats JF-AMD! |
indeed some hard evidence would be nice

What? I own a Tyan Thunder S2915 with pairs of socket F optys from K8 till K10.5...
Yes... you can not overclock them (altough I was able through ntune). Not sure about SR5690 capability. But there are plenty of graphical rendering stations, that could be pulled through a benchmark an see how the architecture behaves at least on stock clock. Mothers like these - http://www.tyan.com/product_SKU_spec...&SKU=600000215 http://www.tyan.com/product_SKU_spec...&SKU=600000212 |
I wish these where like the old 939skt where i could drop one in to an enthusiast mobo and overclock to the moon.
|
haha they have them for sale at sears... http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...=SPM1972446901

So they advertise up to 16 cores... but on their promo material online it's only up to 12? It looks like the 6000 series caps out at 12, at least with this launch.
|
these wont be in the market until Q4:

16 cores of goodness crunching. wonder what bionc numbers it would put out?
|
Some performence numbers would be nice, still it's good to see that the chips actually exist.

Superpi should be banned from internet. A mid 90s app that poorly does its job. PCMark is infamous for lying, and pretty much extend that to most benches ran. What a joke. However, you can't bench these server CPUs on real apps....you wouldn't want it to show them defeating xeons for a lot less cost. |

In all seriousness, server platform Optys are a far cry from the Optys that share the commercial socket. I don't really think this is going to be a good estimate of the basic consumer version of the processor most of us will be buying. |

What does this have to do with AMD shipping Bulldozer? Please stay on topic.

i was hope they do something like some intel xeon cpu's |
I'm pretty sure JF-AMD said they do not have plans to release desktop-based Opteron chips, but who knows what the partners will do.
