Need advice for a PSU !!!
 

Hello all. I'm building for a good friend a gaming rig and i'm stuck at the PSU (which model to buy)... I have like 100 Euros (+10E) to spend on it... The rest of the specs are AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, MSI 890GXM-G65, 2x 4Gb Corsair Vengeance RED 1600Mhz Cl7, Sapphire ATI HD6950 2GB, 1Tb WD Black, LG DVD-RW, 24" LED.

I got some PSU models here in my town. This are my choices:
1. ADATA 750W HM - 105 Euros
2. SEASONIC SS-850HT - 90 Euros
3. CORSAIR GS 800W - 110 Euros
4. CHIEFTEC 750W Super - 110 Euros

Have not heard anything good about those Corsair GS units :s

I just bought the Corsair HX750w myself. It will be here monday. Ive had it recommend to me from a couple different people.

I would definitely go with an Hx unit over any GS units no matter the pricing differences, quality should not be compromised for price in a psu.

True to a point, but GS units are fine. I think modern TX units are based on the same platform as the GS units, but they're rated at 50c instead of 40c and have all japanese caps. And that's about it. Not a whole lot of real world difference.

It's also fascinating how you people say he should buy a PSU not on his list.

I'd say the Seasonic or the Corsair.

Seasonic is the king and even better it is cheaper option :toast: :Most of the high quality psus on the market are rebranded seasonic FYI .

He is already talking of buying "a" Corsair we were simply suggesting another product from the same manufacturer.

He's talking about buying a specific model.

I am well aware of that, however if the particular model listed is not very good I feel it is better for him to be informed of that after which he can decide if he wants a more reliable model.

I kinda agree with you, to a limit. Sometimes you just don't have the funds to but that Platinum unit with everything made of gold, and sometimes you don't really have the option either. Take a look at this here review of the GS800. That's not very bad at all. It will not hurt anything inside a computer. Unless it craps out, but if that happen you're toast no matter brand and model.

If the OP would have suggested a NoName 800W PSU for €40 then I would warn him, but his selection is not that bad (I don't know about A-DATA though).

So, the SS or the Corsair imo.

Corsair or Seasonic i would say.

Ever been In RO? You do not have the same choices as in US/most parts of EU. I have, in the past, been taken parts to friends there because it wasn'ts possible to get the specific model/type/brand.

How about the Cooler Master GX 750W... It's a good brand no?

Out of those, it's either the SeaSonic or the A-Data. Both the Gaming series and the Chieftec are based on CWT PSH II, which is a meh design. They aren't up there with TX v2 or AX units. The A-Data 750W was supposed to be a DSG like the HX750, better than that since it's a newer built as well. Those A-Data's perform well as you can see:

Or if you don't want that one, I'd shoot for the SeaSonic SS-850, which is a solid unit that's used in XFX PSU's, PCP&C Silencers and such.

Nah no GX, opt for the Seasonic unit.

HX650 will run your system fine if you aren't going to Crossfire your graphics. If you plan to upgrade I would go with a minimum of HX750.

Go with the Seasonic.

My favorite PSUs'. I've used Seasonics for quite a while now and have never had an issue with any of them. 2 were PC Power & Cooling Silencers (750w and 610w). Tons of power on them and great voltage regulation -- even on the 80+ certified units.

So i will buy the Seasonic unit this week. Thanks to all of you for your help... Cheers

seasonics are good. also corsairs get stuff from seasonic right?
