how much and which psu for my setup?
this PSU i have cannot handle my system under load so i want to know what wattage i should get and if you have a recommendation of which is a good psu these days let me know as well.
|
A good 500w PSU should be enough, about brands, i don't know, everybody seems to like Corsair, i would buy one. I have a 700w TT thoughpower and a Cooler master UCP 700w and they have never let me down.

Well, how much are you willing to spend? Or most probably, how much you can... lol
And here's a great deal: Antec High Current Gamer Series HCG-620 620W ATX12... |
I haven't visited here in about 5 years, since my last build, and everyone helped me out alot in here.
I've still got my 700W Seasonic PSU , noiseless, works like a dream, and it's still pushing my Q6600, 8800GTX vid card, Asus p5k deluxe mobo, and 4 gigs of crucial ballistix tracer memory just fine. Plus 2 optic drives and 3 hard drives taboot. You can't go wrong with seasonic, probably the best psu out there period. And if you need some help go to johnnyguru3d.com, he'll tell you what's what. If your running crossfire or sli, a 700 W psu will still do the job but to be safe you can grab 850W. My seasonic 700w is 5 years old still working flawlessly dog.... best ps out there....even tho there are other good ones. here's psu reviews from johnnyguru http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...at&recatnum=13 let me know what u pick o.k :nutkick: |
im looking at this pc power and cooling MKIII 600watter. pc powers have always been great to me but im wondering if it will be enough for my machine. dont want to have to upgrade again later.

Get yourself a seasonic 700W will do you fine...saw your system, you only have 1 vid card, and 2 hd's. so you should be fine...but get 850W if your nervous. make sure you get modular tho, much cleaner. |
Looking for budget building?
http://www.amazon.com/Enermax-N500-S...ata/B005O6XJP8 Enermax OEM 76% efficient IIRC. CWT OEM 76% efficency What are you running currently fit? Here's the Newegg link LEPA N Series N500-SA 500W ATX12V Power Supply |

im running a delta 500watter that came in this gateway FX case i put this stuff into for the time being. i have modding project i'll soon detail in a new thread that this hardware will soon go into. the main reason im worrying is the video card, its a asus 6950 dcII thats unlocked to 6970 and i plan on OCing it and my cpu pretty far. |
Yeah you are going to want to go a good 600W-er then
I think this should fit the bill CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 V2 600W ATX12V v2.3 8... That ends up being a little bit cheaper than the LEPA after MIR. |

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...tory2&reid=263 im just wondering if anyone has tried one of these new ones other than reviewers. that and i kinda want modular.... but more on why in my project thread soon. :) PS: im not SET on getting the pc power but its looking pretty appealing compared to what else i've seen. i DO like the seasonics and older corsair hx620 but they are costly and getting hard to find the older ones. antec has not been my fav other than the SR2 psu. |
Nothing against them at all, I like the PC P & C you chose, just giving alternates. Hey and if you can get the power supply locally, it's like getting free overnight shipping :rockout:.
The new Antec is better than what they have been in the past, really cant comment here because my Seasonic 500 Earthwatts unit is still going strong as ever after 4 years. Why modular? PM me if you wish to tell me if its a secret. Speaking of microcenter, hit me up before you go I think i might get a 2500k & board combo if you are willing. |
Idk about you but I always get the very best for my main rig. In that power range I'd have to say one of the Kingwin Platinums. The reviews will back me up here.

Well if Fit is willing to buy one anyway, then get the Kingwin Lazer Platinums then. Quite cheaper compared to the Seasonic Platinum and Enermax Platimax, but there's essentially only a very small "lead" in terms of performance for the Seasonic (well it's between the 1kW models) and matches up well with the Platimax. Then there's the new Antec EarthWatts Platinum, made by FSP. Quite good especially at that price. |
how about nzxt? any good?

@Entropy
Not doubting the HCG lineup either. They are nice as well. Guess it all depends on what you ultimately want to go with you have many many choices in the. 600w range fit. Modular is going to be tough on a "budget ". @fit Trust your gut and don't look back. |
|
The PCP&C one you first mentioned seems pretty good. Manufactured by seasonic.

Price can't really be helped if you want plat + modular. Which is also synonymous with tight regulation and ripple these days. Haven't seen a bad platinum unit yet. |

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com Has lots and lots of PSU reviews.
The ZT650 gets mixed reviews. Most saying it is good/adequate (for a bronze psu) others like HOCP slate it pretty badly. |

Quality 700w minimum. 850w+ preferred.
