GPS Tracker

Hi guys,
I was wondering if there were any GPS tracker that has no monthly fee but also has "live tracking". I can't find any without monthly fees.

Please help

Thanks

If you are tracking a subject, live tracking requires use of cell signals which will almost always require a monthy fee. And of course, it also requires a cell signal for true live tracking.

There are also cell phone apps that will send tracking information over the internet

If you are simply looking for a killer smartphone application that tracks and logs your routes, take a look at "back country navagator" It's $19 or so and one of the best I've ever used. I have my phone mounted on my motorcyle, and use that for back woods trail riding, gives you aerial and topo maps. You can also pre-download areas in case there is no cell service.

If it's true gps then its using a few very expensive satellites to track whatever it is your trying to track. So if you want any kind of accuracy and on demand viewing your gonna pay for it.

Many of them. But they are the type where you have to manually retrieve the device after tracking and download the data.

I'm sure there are some out there that transmit real-time info over RF, but the range is limited and the transmitter and receiver are probably expensive.

Excellent Gps

I am currently using an excellent gps tracker provided by Spy Spot. This device is so small basically a tiny square that you can put anywhere. The battery life is great on it, I've been tracking for two weeks so far and the battery is still going strong. They track through satellites and can provide updates every minute. I have tried several GPS products, but figure I would recommend the Micro tracker from Spy Spot.

any active tracker requires the use of cell towers to send the information to you. you will not be able to actively monitor someone.

however, if you are looking to do a passive type of tracking, then you can do it without paying AT&T.

Passive trackers require you to grab the device and plug it into your PC, Laptop or something and down load the tracks.

There is more information about these types of trackers at places like vigilancegps.com or gpsgate.com both of those companies are free informational sites with no product bias.

If you need real-time update, than a data plan is needed. And there are text based tracking apps out there, which basically send updates by text message at intervals set by you, or you can request location by sending text message to the target phone whenever you wish.
