Stop confusing the OP.

You can turn on all things but usually there's no point in doing so, unless you download a lot of bad stuff. Just run antivirus and if you're unsure you can scan your system with Malwarebytes once in a while to be on the safe side.

I run MSE normally (with Windows Firewall and running updates constantly and a quick scan whenever recommended) and whenever anybody on my network gets something funky (or it's been a couple months) I run a full scan. If I feel like there might be something infecting me, I will run MBAM.

If you run more than one anti-anything with real-time scanning, they can conflict and miss actual infections. Stick with MSE, with a dose of MBAM when you feel sick.

asrok Apr 18, 2012 05:43 PM

ok thanks

m.s.s.e. = micro soft security esentials

mbam = malwarebytes :slap:

DanishDevil Apr 18, 2012 05:44 PM

Yes, sir.

ron732 Apr 18, 2012 05:47 PM

If you are running Vista or 7 they both have an adequate firewall so MSE is all you would need. I believe MSE will turn off Defender when you install it. You can scan with Malwarebytes free version as needed.

Kreij Apr 18, 2012 06:04 PM

^^^ Yup, I just run MSE and keep a few other utilites around in case I suspect something may be amiss.
You really don't want multiple real-time AV programs running.

digibucc Apr 18, 2012 06:22 PM

for some reason i don't like msse. i have no legitimate argument, i just don't like it.
I use Bit-Defender and mbam/sas (superantispyware) for anything bit-defender doesn't catch.

brandonwh64 Apr 18, 2012 06:24 PM

I mainly use AVG on my PC's but have used kaspersky until my key ran out :(

asrok Apr 18, 2012 07:20 PM

Besides that tho.. MSE is all you need.

micropage7 Apr 19, 2012 07:14 PM

MSE is nice but if you wanna try other, try avira

Melvis Apr 19, 2012 08:08 PM

Avast free + Comodo Firewall is your best free combo out there at the moment.

MSE isnt as good as people say it is.

AVG is just shit

Avira is my second choice

Paid versions get Kaspersky

Stay away from Norton for the love of god

And run hitman Pro / Malewarebytes once a month ;)
