Super Flower Readies 650W Modular PSU with Avionics-Grade Contacts, 90% Efficiency
Super Flower launched its second high-performance 650W (continuous, peak output is 750W) modular PSU after the SF-650P14PE, the SF-650P14XE. The new model packs a ton of new features such as PFC + LLC, half-bridge resonant topology, DC-to-DC output, and synchronous rectification. Although it qualifies for 80 Plus Gold, its makers claim efficiency levels as high as 90%.
The SF-650P14XE incorporates Japanese capacitors, Infineon-made MOSFETs, and double vertical transformers. The unit is cooled by a 140 mm Yate Loon-made fan, which is LED-lit (red or blue). Another striking feature is its so-called avionics-grade modular cabling couplings, which ensure good contact. Similar solutions have been implemented previously, on some ABS-Tagan PSUs. http://www.techpowerup.com/img/12-05-30/227a_thm.jpg http://www.techpowerup.com/img/12-05-30/227b_thm.jpg http://www.techpowerup.com/img/12-05-30/227c_thm.jpg The PSU provides enough connectivity to 2-way SLI/CrossFire gaming PCs. Connectors include 24-pin ATX, 4+4 pin ATX/EPS, two 6+2 pin PCIe, two 6-pin PCIe, four SATA, five Molex, and one Berg. The usual suite of protection mechanisms, including OCP , OVP , OPP , SCP, are included. Out now, the SF-650P14XE is priced at 699 RMB (US $110). |
It's been done before, anyone remembers Hiper? They were crap and so where these types of connectors
|
Yup, it's been tried many times before. I mentioned ABS-Tagan (BZ series). That one's been around since 2008 IIRC.
|
considering these are not shielded or grounded like aircraft Plugs and Jacks
|
Yes, the "avionic grade" connectors has been done before, but that doesn't make the PSU crap. There's a HUGE difference between the internals of some old Andyson built Hiper or Topower built Tagan. SuperFlower makes good stuff (mostly). You can't judge the whole unit just because the connectors are the same as some mediocre PSU from 5 years ago.

And based from my own experience, their AMPTAC series is a good and well priced PSU (I can find AMPTAC 650W here for +$85). Better than Coolermaster GX or Corsair GS at the same price range. And TAGAN BZ were made by Topower  No wonder they were craps. |

But yeah I don't think there's anything wrong with the connectors at all. |
I don't think I could put anything in my system with the name Super Flower...WTF who names this shit?

I have these connectors with my XION Lan-Party AXP 800W and like them, they work great and seem much more secure. looks like a good PSU.

I like it. :)
But ... for me it's most important that the PSU is SECURE (with lots of safety mechanisms) and is having a very silent fan built in. Does anyone have experiences with that 140 mm Yate Loon-fan? Currently I have a BeQuiet Dark Power Pro in use. Very silent, very stable ... no problems with BeQuiet-units for many years now. Hmmm ... |

Noise wise, not so silent, but does the job well. |

Back in the 90's when Super Flower started up, they didn't know any better. Heck.. I was in the bicycle business before computers back in the 80's and the names Asians would come up with for their companies and products were always hilarious. Why? Because "QUALITY IS THEIR CHASING!" |
I just love these connectors BFG/ AVON and others have done this but they were low rated PSUs I know Jonnyguru gave the connectors a low rating years ago .But how bad can they be if you have to screw then on.I think Super Flower translates to something cool in Asia but it doesn't work in the west.
