These days would not spend over $1500 it's just not worth doing so for gaming at least.

It was hard to justify spending 1,800 USD on my last upgrade, which was practically a new rig, which is all fun and good until you realize that you're practically never using the computer because your wife has hijacked it. :nutkick:

I wouldn't spend it all at once. I would replace some parts in my other machines... For both my server and guest/media center machines, I would make them up with i3-2100s, those Samsung memory kits everyone was going nuts for, whatever a good 1155 board is, and any fast hard drive... they don't need to be huge, just fast. Not an SSD either, too pricey. I would also replace the power supplies with something like the Corsair AX750... modular, single rail, 80+ Gold efficiency rating, plenty of connectors to go around. I'd also stuff the server full of whatever the best ppd/watt folding card is.

For my main machine, I'd probably just drop a BD in it and call it a day.

ok obviously most of us would do a lot of other things with 5 grand. but lets say we have done all of that. now is time for spending it on the PC! i am pretty sure i would go with 5 monitors in eyefinity, one of those mechanical keyboards, a butt ton of gpu and cpu power. basically just go balls to the wall with it. oh also, save like $1000 and put it toward a couple of years worth of UBER bandwidth from verizon.
