Updated: MSI's Client SSD Lineup Piloted by Reflex Series, Pictured
 

Since the last couple of weeks, we've known of MSI's plans to enter the client SSD market, thanks to a leak by LSI-SandForce. Today we're getting the first pictures of what MSI has been secretly working on. Called the Reflex series, MSI's first SSDs are built on the most widely used performance SSD platform, a combination of LSI-SandForce SF2281 controller and 25 nm synchronous NAND flash.

MSI's Reflex series will be launched in three variants, the RX-60 (60 GB), the RX-120 (120 GB), and the RX-240 (240 GB), respectively. Performance numbers differ with model. The RX-60 offers up to 525 MB/s reads with 495 MB/s writes, and 85,000 IOPS 4K random write performance. The RX-120 ups that to 550 MB/s reads with 515 MB/s writes, and 90,000 IOPS 4K random writes. Leading the pack is the RX-240, with 560 MB/s reads, 525 MB/s writes, and 90,000 IOPS 4K random writes. The three are built in the 2.5-inch form-factor, with SATA 6 Gb/s interface. Update (23/07): MSI Europe informed us that while the product is real, it will not be available for purchase in Europe, and that there are no plans to sell the drives in the old continent, in the near future. MSI Europe's statement follows

Loving the blue. Since I am due to get an SSD next month (not sure which I will grab but do know its of the 200GB+ variety) if these are out, I may snag one up

Bit late to the game. Better late than never I guess...

Not much of a "complaint" though, considering that none of the companies with such SSDs have a more varied portfolio than MSI. The only company that comes close is Samsung, but then again they're sort of a "different" kind already since they make memory chips themselves...

While the performance numbers seem pretty much in line with all the other SandForce driven SSD's, the name Reflex Series makes me think of budget level performance.

Comment on the news update. Why the hell not sell it in Europe? Our money doesn't smell nice to you, MSI? From the looks of this their SSD announcement is just a PR stunt.

Basically what they are saying is: "Look at us, we are so cool now because we also offer SSD."
But we won't sell them to you. Well FU MSI.

I'm not the biggest fan of SandForce controllers but every extra option means benefit to the end consumers.

There's a reason it hasn't been announced yet (in Europe) because we're not selling them here.

It is also not our job to fight with our partners here in Europe (like Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, Samsung etc.) because we don't want to be a competitor with them.

There is plenty of PC hardware that is only destined for certain markets and this lineup of SSD's is one of them.

More manufacturers means more competition and what does competition do? Causes competitors to lower their prices.

Absolutely. Until a bottom-line has been reached where it no longer becomes profitable to manufacture them.

Hey, I'm all for SSD's and lower prizes (and I love where the pricepoints are now, I still paid €200 for my 128GB Vertex2) but the "problem" with internet is that you and I can read something. Get ridiculously excited only to find out that I'm not able to participate/purchase because of my geographical location.

Ultimately, the old-world borders and laws are what's holding progress and evolution back. Those old-world ideas are whats making you and I not able to buy an MSI SSD and ME not able to watch Hulu or participate in the Mechwarrior:Online founders program.

Meh there's a lot of things not avaliable in Europe and vice versa. As neliz said, it's not like we need a new player.
