Recovering corrupt word documents
Hi all,
I am at a lose end.I have several word documents all are corrupted.is there any way I can atleast get the text out of the document..?or even fix them..?I have tried alot of things but Im hoping I havent tried everything =\ ideas? Thanks =) |
to be honest, if they're corrupt they're likely completely screwed. someone may know of a recovery method, but you'd best assume they're goners now and plan for that.
|
If it's a .doc open them with notepad and copy all the clear text you can find. If it's a .docx or .odf try to open with WinZip or WinRAR and see if the archive can be recovered.
|
normally word likes making backups, not sure where they are kept but if you can find them you might be able to use the backups
|
Thanks guys.I do know its a long shot.I actually work in a school and it is the sac of a student. So really it is there fault for not making a backup. But I want to atleast try and recover something.I havent tried opening with winrar or winzip so i will try that!thanks temp.

Can you attach a sample corrupted file so we can take a look at it? (if you know that there is no confidential/private information inside it)

And I know this thread is abit of a spam magnet..for that I apologise. Unfortunately I cannot attach one of the files due to they need to remain confidential. I have tried the following: - Several "text" recovery programs. - I have tried using word to repair and open the documents - I have tried opening the documents in several other text browsers - ie. Notepad, wordpad etc - I have tried using winzip, winrar and 7zip to retreive text - I have tried changing options in word to attempt to open the document as a draft. - I have tried to use word to "insert text" from the document All these things havent worked for me yet.. |
I believe Kernel for Word repair software is a software plug for this >> http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/W...r-Software.php
But it seems that you could use this with out buying it with the inserted word "DEMO" after each paragraph of recovered text. |
