Good video recording software?
What's some good software these days for locally recording a video (such as making a gameplay video)? I just used Xsplit to make something, but it looks terrible, even with the highest quality presets, and I don't see any advanced options anywhere.
Looking for something free to use, hopefully. |
Bandicam looks quite good. I have been using it after being a long time fraps fan.

EDIT: You can also use Handbrake to convert/compress the video file if it is to big. :toast: |
When using fraps, beware of the amount of storage space you're going to need! I had a dedicated 2TB drive for frapsing

Rcoon is right, Fraps when recording stores the video in a RAW format so it can get large FAST. I believe bandicam has a compressing feature as it records but I have not researched this further.

Afterburner is a good Program for Game recording, Mostly because of it's Small amount of Impact on your system. It unfortunately requires a workaround to Record Game Audio, and commentary, but if it's just gameplay your after, afterburner is a Great choice.

And IDK, I get better quality, much smaller filesize and better performance when using ffmpeg + x264. So that "advantage" is a bit hard to see... ¬____¬ |
I used Fraps awhile back and just starting to use Bandicam now(I think its better), I use WinAVI and Handbrake for converting my videos.
For live streaming I use Media Flash Encoder in combination with VHScrCap and justin.tv |
Shame you didnt post yesterday. PLAYCLAW was free on http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/
TODAY you can get a video converter free on http://www.bitsdujour.com/software/w...verter-deluxe/ |
Bandicam looked good, but it split up my video into 20 second segments? Also, it doesn't have microphone support. Forgot that I was also looking for mic support.
Just found the mic option. |
The only one of these I used before was Fraps for recording gameplay footage. For converting I used Badaboom (when I had an 8800) to convert it to FLV. Right now I use Any Video Converter.

The only problem with Afterburner now is that it won't record from 64-bit games. But those are rare still. |
