How big is the CPU performance hit while using 2 hard drives in RAID 1?

I will be gaming and doing normal things as well. I want to start off with a raid 1, but I may eventually use another raid setup. So this question applies to the performance hit for all raids. How high is it?

Thanks!

id say less then 2 % for raid1.... its just mirrored data...

only Raid5/6 ect with parity use a lot of cpu power.

RAID0 = 0%
RAID1 = 0%
RAID10 = 0%
RAID0+1 = 0%
RAID5 = 0-2%
RAID6 = 1-3%

It's more of a deterrant on memory throughput than CPU but even then, we're talking very little for HDDs (200 MB/s for two drives). SSDs, due to their higher performance, could put a lot more strain on a system but unless you're talking more than four drives in the array, I wouldn't worry about it.

what if I had ssds in raid 1 for the operating system and regular harddrives for everything else? Would you still recommend raid 1?
