New Orico 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch Adapter Apes Hard Drives, Helps Troll Friends

Chinese peripherals maker Orico rolled out the DNSB-84172, a unique 2.5-inch SATA drive enclosure that is built out of solid metal, designed to resemble conventional 3.5-inch hard drives, so much so, that it even features curves and domes over parts that typically cover the platters, spindle and actuator. Its top metal lid can be unscrewed to reveal a 2.5-inch SATA 6 Gb/s drive bay, which is wired to both a properly-located SATA power+data interface (letting you insert the enclosure into NAS caddies), and a USB 3.0 connector, letting you carry the enclosure around, like a boss. Place an inherently shock-resilient SSD inside, and 'shock' coworkers with its speed and the acrobatics it lets you perform.

Pft, use this in a NAS? Pretending an SSD is a HDD is the only reason they made it.

What a pointless gadget.

You don't need the adapter to perfectly resemble a 3.5-inch HDD. Just the SATA interface in the right place should do.

i prefer showing hardware off not hiding it. Reminds me of ENgine covers in Cars (Very Pointless to me)

I actually enjoy putting ultra fast cutting edge hardware into old shitty cases and hiding the hardware, then people actually ask why it is so fast. When people see your quad SLI with watercooling no one is going to ask why it is so fast, i mean why else do you watercool? But with this you can start a convo. But i like to make stuff like this myself, i love getting those magnetics out of harddrives, they are great for picking up screws and such. .

It looks exactly like a Maxtor.

I could only get 1 maybe two troll uses out of it. Almost worth it.
