SimCity closed beta starts this weekend!

For those of you who signed up on the website, the beta keys were sent to emails yesterday and amazingly, I got one. I can only play an hour at a time but here are my thoughts from a Simcity 2000 diehard and veteran.

http://www.simcity.com/en_US/faq
  • Game looks good like but graphics arn't "stellar" or not what i've seen seen so far but I have a feeling this game is gonna tax our GPU's once citys get really big
  • I really like not having to freaking constantly lay down pipes and electric wires all over the place, thats a nice touch
  • Sims are always complaining about something, nothing new there since my epic SimCity 2000 days
  • Lots of road options galore including ones that actually curve and circle, yah!!!
  • Definetely not "dumbed down" in regards to maintain the complex system of building, runing and fixing a city, so SimCity veterans like me don't feel like were getting a "Kiddy" version of the game
  • Really blows you can't terraform your own landscape, I'm really, really gonna miss that
  • I guess I can live with the constant online aspect of it, don't really have a choice
  • Sharing and trading with other cities and people online could be fun
  • Being able to click on anything and anyone to get information about whats going on is pretty cool, you certainly don't have an exscuze of not being informed playing the game

Here's what I managed to get built before my hour was up, grrrrr, I was having fun! :rockout:

I wish I would have signed up. Terraforming was my favorite part of 2000 and 4, so that is a total drag. I'm still not sold on not running pipes, adding extra pumps to feed dry parts of the city was a fun aspect of 2000, so I guess I'll just have to see for myself.

really? I farking hated that, especially further inland were their was basically jack shit for water on my maps cause I had mine placed on high level plains and mountain ranges

"Multiplayer is also a first for the series, adding a new dimension to the game, as decisions impact both the city and the region, creating new ways to play by collaborating or competing to earn achievements."

LIES! SimCity 2000: Network Edition!

^^^ Oh yeah, I remember that waaaay back then, lol! But I was so obsessed with my citys and playing for hours on end on my old DTK 33mhz Pentium machine with upgraded 512k video ram so I could play SC2000 that I never wanted to play with anyone. Hell, I didn't wanna be bothered at all, I'm trying to solve a crysis with the cities budget damnit!

I solved all my budget issues with porntipsguzzardo

The biggest complaint I've heard is that the maps are so tiny. Like 1km x 1km, or something ludicrous like that. Basically you could fit about 20 of them on a SC2k map.

I got my key but then I realized I have to install origin so I said F that.

MT Alex Jan 27, 2013 03:16 AM

Heck, pass it on over, then:)

FordGT90Concept Jan 27, 2013 04:31 AM

I got a key but didn't redeem it because I don't want to be limited to three days of limited (1 hour) access. I got it pre-ordered so I'm just waiting for it to come out.

Also, I'm sure SimCity will require Origin to be installed. If you pre-ordered it, you might as well get used to the idea of having it installed.

Wow this has whetted my appetite even more. March cant come soon enough.

The beta was too short, I wanted to play it more. :(
