My Beast PC has become SUPER slow. Help
Hi, Look @ my specs, I have a very good PC. It's usually Very fast and has very low delays whenever I do stuff with it...
Lately it started having delays. I open windows, or programs, and there's a 3-4 seconds delay (which usually is 0.2 seconds delay lol) I open stuff like firefox and want to type and text appears seconds after... very frustrating. I did a FULL scan with Microsoft Security Essentials, and it found nothing. My last windows 7 re-install must be like 7 or 8 months old so don't think that's the problem (although it always helps to re-install windows 7) I'm thinking it could be my hard drives that need a defrag or the SSD that might be getting slow... but again, I suspect they're not the problem... The SSD is prob 2 years old tops, and the degrag seems needed, but nothing urgent... I'm lookin for a program that fixes everything at once (something that checks the Registry, viruses, adware, cleaning...) any tips? |
oh and btw, my computer tends to be slow and delayed like this for like 15 mins after I logged in... it tends to get back to its normal speed after 15 mins... just weird...
|
For registry and general Windows cleaning, I suggest CCleaner.
Don't defrag your SSD, it is not needed and many sources will tell you it does more harm than good. As far as anti-virus goes, that's really a crap shoot. There are a lot of good, free programs out there and everyone has their own preferences. |
First, what's your start up program list like? Is there anything there that doesn't have to be started up when you hit the power button? It does sound like you are over loading the computer with programs causing the whole thing to grind to a halt.
Second, are you sure that you have the specified RAM in there? Is it all showing up? Thirdly, do a hard drive test. HD Tune or something like that, will show you if the drives are still performing correctly Fourthly (?LOL?) When was the last time you formatted and reinstalled Windows? Could be that you just need to clean everything out and start a fresh. Fithly (Does that even exist as a word?!) Put your CPU back to stock, OC CPU can be finicky things if they start to go bad. A list to think about if you haven't already. |
MSE can't be trusted, Use a proper antivirus, eg avast or AVG and scan with malwarebytes and TDSS killer

anything "out of the norm" that you've done to maybe cause the slowdown? I suspect HDD

Don't let mailman catch you talking like that! http://img.techpowerup.org/130212/Capture089841.jpg |
Plenty of reasons, you should start off with the most common ones (clean registry, clean startup, check hdd full, etc). Report if you still have problems.
|
malware may also be a cause, i recommend kasperky 2013 trial from their official website, it finds malware that malwarebytes and MSE do not find. i know this because i had the same issue a few weeks ago, massive slow downs.
MSE said everything was ok, so i tried kaspersky trial, and boom malware found. |
I had some slowdowns recently in my SSD OS and I simply ran the check and fix disk utility from windows. And the problem just went away!
|
If you open the task manager after turning the PC on, do you see an application gouging up resources? I would look into that first.
|
Maybe I have the same problem, but it started with the newer nvidia gpu drivers. Once I boot, I have to immediately restart then login or else it's horribly laggy.

I wasn't going to go into details, he simply needs to know not to do it. Cheers to all repliers, now we play the waiting game and see what, if anything, helps him.:toast: |
alright guys, I took off some items that were in the Windows Startup list (msconfig) and it looks like I'm back on track. Must have been a program I installed recently or something ... not sure yet...
|
Glad to see that you tried the idea. Keep an eye on it, see if you can install the programs one at a time, see which one bogs you down most.
|
Run a scan with Hitman Pro. It is free for 30 days. It might find something other scans have missed. I use it before MBAM.
|
MSE+Malwarebytes is perfectly fine if you are not an idiot. If you are an idiot I suggest you disconnect from the internet as nothing will save you.
IF you do get hit by something nasty (which can only happen if you install it) then download and run Kapersky Rescue Disk 10. |
probably there are a lot of start up services running.
goto run (windows key + R) ->type msconfig-> startup tab -> uncheck all the unimportant ones that you do not recognise (etc adobe has a bucnch of crap there) then goto services tab, check hide all microsoft services, then uncheck all the services that you dont need. |
yeah, I officially solved my problem. I don't know which "startup" item was causing the major slowdown. But whatever I did, it worked.
thanks for all the input. Really appreciate it |
