Gigabyte Intros E350N WIN8 Mini-ITX Motherboard
 

Gigabyte rolled out a new mini-ITX motherboard based on the AMD E350 "Zacate" APU, for entry-level PC and home-server builds, the E350N-WIN8. As the name might suggest, the board is designed to run Windows 8 with its entire feature set, including Fast Boot. It does that by replacing legacy AwardBIOS on older variants, with modern AMI UEFI, backed by Gigabyte's Dual-UEFI redundant BIOS technology that protects against failed BIOS updates. The E350N WIN8 uses a fairly big (SFF-safe) fan-heatsink to cool the APU, while a tiny heatsink cools its companion A45 FCH chipset.

The AMD E350 packs two x86-64 cores clocked at 1.60 GHz, with a maximum memory support of 16 GB, and AMD Radeon HD 6310D DirectX 11 graphics that rides on 80 stream processors. The APU is wired to two standard-size 240-pin DIMM slots. The lone expansion slot, sadly, is a legacy PCI. The board draws power from a combination of 24-pin and 4-pin ATX connectors. Connectivity includes four SATA 3 Gb/s ports, eight USB 2.0/1.1 ports (four on the rear panel, four by headers), serial RS232 (COM) and parallel (LPT) ports, PS/2 mouse and keyboard connectors, and display outputs that include D-Sub (VGA) and HDMI (with 7.1-channel digital HD audio). Expect a sub-$100 price point.

Legacy PCI is a no-no

parallel, ps2, com and etc.
i guess this board is for pos or other cost-cut areas.

You can have a parallel, you can have a PS2 port but on this case once you have the PCI you don't have the more important and modern PCI-E

Now what would be the price on this board?

PCI?! Not in my home-server!

Gigabyte, make amends for this travesty by releasing a model with E450 and PCIe, kthxbye.

sometimes industry doesn't need any pci-e but some very old pci accessories.
for example, a pci communication card for cash box or autherization.

How can you fit 4 PCIe into a mITX board?

He means a PCI-e slot that has for lanes, silly. A "normal" PCI-e slot has got 16 lanes (8 utilized in most cases).

But seriously now. I know a lot of factories that use cards that are PCI. Most mITX boards do not have PCI support, and only a single PCIE slot, so how else can certain industrial places run their ancient hardware?
I know a rubber factory that uses hardware so old the software is only available on floppy disks, and their PC's have to have some kind of floppy format, as they're not allowed to "copy that floppy".

I think the options for mITX with PCI are pretty good when the industrial oriented boards are included in the mix.

But even if the selection was poor, doesn't really matter does it? A replacement system can be any form-factor. And if for some reason mITX is needed, that's very low on my list of worries. Ensuring that the software would run on new hardware would be my primary concern.

not to mention the ultra low grade caps that are screaming "piss poor" :twitch:

pci-e would have been more sane than anything, this is more a replacement for via-itx board used on office/pos systems with legacy keyboards..

but oh noes it need an stupid P4 "ready" powersupply, adapter time :mad:
