Yes. Unless otherwise stated in the motherboard's documentation or the drive's documentation, all three generations of SATA are backwards- and forwards-compatible. You'll just get the speeds from the slowest link in the chain, so to speak.

de.das.dude Feb 20, 2013 02:02 PM

thanks!

Well I am running a SATA 3 Gbps HDD and even a SATA 1.5 Gbps HDD in my SATA 6 Gbps mobo and never had a problem. :p

Solaris17 Feb 21, 2013 07:47 AM

yup

IIRC both the HDDs and the controllers are backwards compatable

so a 6gb/s drive will work on a 1.0 controller

and

1.0 drives will work on 6gb/s controllers

the controllers on both the board and the drives have the ability to talk to each other no problem.

Don't buy into the sata 6gbs cable thing either. A sata cable is a sata cable is a sata cable. Link.

de.das.dude Feb 21, 2013 08:43 AM

yeah, i use the cables that come with the board.

Time to buy one of those gold plated Monster cables for $50 and get a "massive performance boost", just like with HDMI.

Yeah ddd, all the sata standards are compatible with each other, as the others have explained. :)

What bugs me about a UEFI BIOS is that there were all those promises about superfast BIOS booting, but it wasn't true. At least if my Asus mobo us anything to go by, as it takes just as long as all my previous mobos with the classic BIOS.

It can seem a bit noobish, but I think the GUI has its place, too.

yeah but the features are promising

UEFI firmware provides several technical advantages over a traditional BIOS system:[11]
  • Ability to boot from large disks (over 2 TiB) with a GUID Partition Table, GPT.[12][13]
  • CPU-independent architecture[12]
  • CPU-independent drivers[12]
  • Flexible pre-OS environment, including network capability
  • Modular design

as long as it starts without errors, i wont complain :p

and yes qubit, they are 0% faster than normal bioses.
