simple ? for a simple mind

ok, I read about cas, memory latency issues and speed. The ? I have is if a memory modual is a latency of only one digit ;"2" for example how does that compare to mem with multiple digits? ex;"2 3 4 2" ?

A memory module with only one digit? All memory modules will have those other digits, but just not published. I'm assuming your "2" would the the CAS latency, so that would be the first number out of the four digits.

This might help a little.

Centon 2048MB PC3200 Dual Channel DDR 400MHz Memory went to the website, no info listed.. just the 3 in the sellers site.. Does anyone know what s pecs these are?

AND

Why do mem spec list at 400 mghz but the "blerbs" say they can reach speeds of up to 200 mghz? seems counter intuitive?

I don't know the technical details behind it, but some sites will list 200MHz because that is the speed that the RAM works at, but because it is DDR (double data rate) that somehow becomes 400MHz - nothing to worry about.

As for the specs - I don't have a clue. They are normally written on a sticker on the modules themselves... assuming you have already bought them. If you put the sticks in and set the BIOS to auto, you can use CPU-Z to read the information about which timings they will work at.
