Sony Announces Euro PS3 Game Prices

Sony has released the first information regarding Playstation 3 game prices in Europe, bringing some good (well, arguably) news for a change. The price of both Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of Man has been confirmed to be €59.99 in mainland Europe and £39.99 in the UK (more or less the same). Games which will be downloadable from the Playstation Network will have introductory prices of between €2.99 and €9.99, with other content (such as game items) starting at €0.99. Some consumers will see this as good news from the view that it is cheaper than Europe’s Xbox 360 games which cost as much as €75.00 (£50), but that still works out to be just under $80, whilst in North America gamers are only paying $60.

Do Europeans really make that much more money than the rest of us, or are Sony and M$ just that more greedy?

Going on GDP per capita, the US is way ahead of most countries in Europe except for the biggest ones which come close.

Lol brilliant. Cash's model of economic growth. If you want everyone to get richer, charge higher prices!

Remember that most places in Europe have some form of a VAT tax. 17.5% in the UK.

and you're sure those prices include VAT?

I thought 39.99 lbs (not sure how to do the pound symbol) was like 1.25 dollars. If so, they are paying like 40 bucks. However, it seems the GBP is 2.00bucks.

the only way to defeat micro transactions and halt this growing trend is to boycott them full stop but as anything there will be people with money to waste, when will gamers learn to say no to being ripped off.

Well here in Austria Xbox 360 Games cost 59,90€ as well. Only Xbox 360 Exclusive titles *may* have a 10€ price premium.

I know, I am an Xbox 360 Promotor, own one myself and will be working for Microsoft during the European PS3 launch. My location will get 300-400 PS3s and the store is not expecting to sell them as well as Wii or XBox 360 launch.

cheers
DS

According to the source website they are RRP figures, so they should include VAT.

Note how 7 of the 10 "richest" (as in GDP per capita) countries are in Europe and #1 and #2 are from Europe. And those are not the big countries :)
