New hardware every year?!

Why is it that video card are out for a small amount of time and in a year they just go? Like the 8800 series just came out a while ago and now the 9xxx series is taking its place. Same with the CPU's. And consoles come out every 5 years!. Which at least gives you a LONG TIME to save up some cash. Gettin tired of ''rumors'' of the next video card when the last series JUST CAME OUT!. Hardware manufactures need to give the market a break so we can get geared up for the next release of video cards and CPU's in about 3 years at least.:shadedshu

DaMulta Jan 4, 2008 09:33 PM

If they slowed down, we would never get anywhere. The biggest reason is In company's time is money, and a new CPU is cheap compared to time and money.

PC's have always been this way,and it's one reason that keeps it FUN.

DaMulta Jan 4, 2008 09:36 PM

It's not like these system don't last either.

My friend(Going on what 3 years now) with a 939 AMD 3200 single core, 2 gigs of DDR, with a X1800XT 512 meg still plays everything maxed out for the most part at 1024 x 780. So saying that these systems don't last isn't totally true. If you want the greatest and latest at high resolutions at 60FPS then yes you need to upgrade/

CDdude55 Jan 4, 2008 09:38 PM

But what if the games in the future are really hard to run and you need the best most expensive hardware out?

Irish_PXzyan Jan 4, 2008 09:39 PM

If you buy the lower end cards, no they will not last.

That's why you pay the cost and get the good stuff.

The 8800GT will last for a long time.

technicks Jan 4, 2008 10:09 PM

It sucks that EVGA wont ship worldwide so i grabbed mine on Ebay.

Just update in time then it wont cost you so much.

I sold my old card for €220 and the new one is €240. So whats the big deal. lol

Irish_PXzyan Jan 4, 2008 10:12 PM

Would you not want to keep your crucial RAM in case they are disappointing??

Is that the OCZ Reaper RAM I was going to buy until they got sold out over here??? if so...you lucky wamker :p

technicks Jan 4, 2008 10:15 PM

No then i will just buy some again.;)

But for now i need funds for the Reapers.

technicks Jan 4, 2008 10:17 PM

Thought about going for the 8800 GTS 512 but it was to expensive.
But hey at least i am up to date again:p

Irish_PXzyan Jan 4, 2008 10:19 PM

Yeah but to be honest i just want them for the 2x2 gb.
I have them for sale here in Holland for €140. :D
And no i don't need the the cash i just don't want to have 8gb ram.:)

And i even think that the Reapers are not as good as the Crucials.

Irish_PXzyan Jan 4, 2008 10:34 PM

ahhhh so you dont need the cash! good stuff...ill take your RAM for free :D

If I were you...I would spend the extra cash on getting an 8gig system :p I do wish to get 8gigs this year...but if I buy your RAM I will only be able to use 4gigs MAX!! so if I done what you are doing! I could go 8gigs in the future :p that would be so sweet!
I guess I will be waiting for you to be sick of the Reapers and give them to me as a trade :p lol

I dont understand the OPs complaint.

I am talking about the 9xxx series and how they keep making a whole new video card series before the current one even gets a couple years old.
;)

BloodTotal Jan 5, 2008 12:19 AM

save up or not, w/e, I would love to play graphically increasing games withing the next 5 years on amazing graphics cards instead of, waiting like 15 years for that!, but yeah they started releasing vid cards fast, now a days.

That's how ANY industry progresses. if people just settled for what worked, we'd still be driving Model Ts and doing math on an abacus.
