cleaning a cpu cooler
just wondering if there is a problem with cleaning the underside of my thermaright ultra- extreme with water :)
i clean most things with warm water and washing up liquid.. if that dont work i use something "nastier"..
lol :) thx....just dont wanna make sure :) incase i kill my cpu aswell as my mobo :)
Not ideal but it should not hurt anything. Don't use any cleaners that leave a residue. I usually use 90% alcohol and cotton swabs.
Is the "underside" the portion that come in contact with the CPU? Use isopropyl alcohol, or the specialized cleaners that you can buy. Water increases corrosion rates.
Water is also a solvent, that will slightly dissolve and create imperfections on the contact surface. Tap water, and even a lot of commercially filtered drinking waters, contain many mineral impurities, which will leave a residue behind on your cooler.
hmm :) thx...i just need to clean some heat gel thats kinda dried up a little... :)...i think warm water will be ok...maybe a tiny drop of washing up liqid....
emm dose glasses lense cleaner work...it evapurates in like a second..so i guess it will have alot of alcahol in it :):) |

Generally cleaners that evaporate quickly will cause less corrosion in many metals. However if the cooler base is nickel plated, corrosion is not an issue.

do u have any special kind of chickens that u sacrifice while doing this cleaning or will any old kind do.. ??? trog |
