Opera Gets Full Marks in Acid3
It looks like Opera’s development team has done a good job of improving the browser's compatibility, as it has now managed to achieve an impressive score of 100 out of 100 on the Acid3 web standards test. Opera Software’s Head of Core Technology, Lars Erik Bolstad, wrote:

Well maybe i will give opera another chance, I remember when i used it last year all the time, half the stuff wouldnt load correctly or nothing was compatible. :(

Same ending
Opera and Safari are the firsts :) |
I've used Opera for years...more as a preference as I enjoy it more-so for my browsing in comparison to every other browser I've used. Everyone has their preferences though...just because these ones rate the best doesn't mean they should be used by everyone imo.
I know a lot of people like FireFox...and that's cool, as I think iirc, FF did pretty good in the Acid tests also. Good to see more browsers getting better and better, and it's also nice to see a variety of them doing well. :toast: |

acid 1 OK (its ten years old) acid 2 Fail, FF and IE still cant draw it (Safari supports it from 2005Q4 Opera 2006Q1) (3 years old) acid 3 7x/100 (24 days old :D) |
Wow that's a nice story right their. Congrats to the Opera dev team.
I have a feeling Safari will also be there very soon, after all they are only on the first release of Safari for Windows. |
still doesnt mean squat if it cant remain stable
|
I don't think that test means squat.
FF3 beta 4 crashes on me a lot, despite it getting a higher score on the Acid3 test than firefox 2. How often are you gonna run into a website that's coded syntactically correct, but is coded terribly wrong? |

Where is the Safari for windows? I need to take a gander at that.

i used opera up until i couldn't get the mobile to work off my USB drive. it just wouldn't work with portable apps so i use FF now modded to run like opera

Opera's biggest flaw is the fact that it's not open source. As for security I think that it was and it still is the safest browser. |
I've just dl'd it again (can't remember the last time I did!) and the best feature has to be Speed Dial. I did have issues with an earlier version but it was soooooo long ago I can't remember wot they were, but I'm using it now to post this and all seems well (at the moment) - famous last words! ;)

False news since Opera should have only gotten 99/100. The 100/100 was based off the previous update of Acid3, which had 1 error which is now fixed so presumably opera should only get 99/100 on latest Acid3 update. So Webkit is the only layout engine which gets the full 100/100 with pixel to pixel match.
Also, you have to note that webkit releases nightly builds to the public so you get real-time update on their score while other layout engines are released less frequently so the results for the other engines may be inaccurate since the current internal non-public build of that engine might have a much higher score as seen in this case with Opera. No one can repeat this value unless you work at Opera and use the latest non-public build. |
