No he meant that literally, AMD had it in their slide that they were gona move the 3870 and 3850 as the 4670 and 4650.

farlex85 Jun 26, 2008 04:04 AM

So does that mean the 4850 and 4870(x2) are the only new gen cards?

It isn't. HD4650/70 feature 240 SP's.

http://www.dvhardware.net/article25293.html

But since information about shaders is wrond on that site, we have to wait and see.

But it's based on a new RV740 core, not RV670.

cdawall Jun 26, 2008 04:37 AM

well if they perform like the 3850/70 i might get some of those instead of 4850/70 and just run 4 of them

zithe Jun 26, 2008 05:03 AM

I'd consider them just for a cheaper card to stick in my WoW PC. Hmmm. I'd love it to push 24xAA and 16x AF (Unless 24x AF is out too) in WoW at 1280 with the graphic mods. :)

I'm guessing 4650 will be in the 100-120 range while the 4670 will be around 140.... About the price of the 3850/3870s. Doubt they'll be 3850/3870. I've heard rumors that the 2k/3k series supported 24x AA, but I've never seen proof or use in any tests. (Wonder why!?) lol

It doesn't look that good for the 4870 actully the 3670 had 240SP remember it looks like the HD2600XT on a 256bit bus with an overclock to me

Why doesn't it look good for the 4870? Oh, did you think that was 4870 on the graph and not 4850? :S

candle_86 Jun 26, 2008 05:56 AM

sorry meant 4670 not 4800, this card is gonna be alot weaker when it comes down to it. 48 complex shaders, 48 simple shaders vs 64complex on 3870 and 64 simple.

But for mainstream consumers it'll be a very nice card. :3

really even at 150 the 9600GT should walk all over it, even with the 256bit bus. Not tring to be rude, but the sub 150 range looks to be firmly Nvidia territory right now. The 9600GT can be had for 130, the 9600GSO for 110, the 8800GS for 90, the 8600GT for 70, and the 8500GT for 50 online, id say right now sub 150 is Nvidia turff

letmego Jun 26, 2008 09:42 PM

when is this card going on the market?date please?

wiak Jun 26, 2008 09:50 PM

3th july is what i got from where me ordered 4870 from ;)

DaMulta Jun 26, 2008 10:15 PM

Damn the AMD cards get stomped when they use the other card for IQ.

16xaa runs damn good on those test.

fraid I'm with candle on this one, 800 sp's on the high mids and only 240 on the mid lows? why not 320 on the mid lows and 240 on the lows?

edit: better yet just keep the 3870 and drop it's price to 100$ and drop the 3850 to 75$. that's be a sweet mid-low range setup.

3870 is 135 (some people insist that the 9600gt is close to the 8800gt, when in reality it loses to the 3870 in a majority of games)
3850 is 120.

The foxconn 8600gts is only 64.99. Cheapest 8600gt is 65.99, A dollar more lol.
You're counting mail in rebates as if they always come. :(
