Shuttle presents the XPC Barebone SX48P2 Deluxe PC barebone

Shuttle Inc., market leader in the mini-PC segment and manufacturer of Multi-Form-Factor solutions, today unveils a new XPC Barebone from the P2 model series building on Intel's X48 Express chipset. Specially designed for high performance systems, the XPC Barebone SX48P2 Deluxe is ideally suited for Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors with up to four cores.

The XPC Barebone SX48P2 Deluxe is the first mini PC barebone ready to be equipped with DDR3 memory modules. A maximum capacity of eight Gigabytes on four sockets can be installed into this model. "The pioneering DDR3 memory technology promises more performance with less energy consumption and reduces heat development which is ideal for mini PCs," explains Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. Two PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots enable the use of high-end graphics cards with an ATI Radeon HD 4870 being supported as well.

The Shuttle XPC Barebone SX48P2 Deluxe comes with wi-fi, bluetooth, a fingerprint reader, USB speed link function and even two heat pipe cooling systems already built-in. Two Gigabit-LAN interfaces with load balancing and failover function on the rear are provided for fast networking. Two eSATA connectors with the appropriate power supply for external drives are also found at the back. To make sure this mini PC works smoothly under load in maximum configuration, a power supply certified for 80 PLUS with 450 Watt supplies all components with sufficient power. The digital 8-phase voltage transformer on the mainboard ensures this even with high level usage. This high-performance package is rounded off with Dolby Digital Live! and DTS Connect-certified 8-channel sound.

Salient features include:
  • Intel X48 Express / ICH9R chipset
  • Supports 45nm processors and/or current models of the Intel Core 2 Extreme / Core 2 Quad / Core 2 Duo Series with Socket 775 (up to FSB 1600)

Nice, would be a xfire squeeze though.

How come x48 uses ich9r sb while p45 uses newer ich10r sb?

newtekie1 Jul 21, 2008 04:26 PM

Because the P45 came out after the X48, and the ICH10R wasn't available when the x48 came out. Though I would think switching over wouldn't hurt anything.

It may support an HD4870, but with only a 450w power supply, I wouldn't risk it, and I certainly wouldn't try crossfire.

What motherboard are they using? Is it available to buy?

tigger Jul 21, 2008 05:15 PM

It a Shuttle FX48 motherboard.

Hmm, thanks, but I still can't seem to find out if you can buy it. Probably not. :(

EDIT: Some hope: http://www.digitimes.com/systems/a20070528VL200.html

Shuttle's kick ass!

Don't be fooled by the 450W PSU, they're PSU are extremely efficient. I was running 2 HDDs, an optical drive, a X1950 Pro (& and then a 3850) a dual core CPU and 2GB of RAM. All that was running flawlessly on a 240W PSU.

Weirdly, my SN95Gv3 was also a far better OC'er than my current two full sized ATX boards. Freakin' love Shuttles, I miss my dearly.

Yeah i build a couple of those... I recommend them just for their PSU's, theyre amazing; not to mention you save HOURS on cable management.

450W... i'd assume its like corsair, giving an understated wattage rating unlike other manufacturers.

Dual NICs.... X48. I'd chuck a HD4870 into one of these :D
