Picture of the ASUS 9800 GT Ultimate Emerges, Looks Familiar

Donanimhaber released the first picture of the ASUS GeForce 9800 GT Ultimate, which should be released very soon. In many aspects the GPU is at most part a re-branded 8800 GT with its 512MB GDDR3 memory, 112 Stream Processors and identical core/memory clockspeeds. The Ultimate model from ASUS however features much higher parameters, 725MHz core, 2000MHz memory and 1750MHz shader clocks. The picture shows the card to have a cooler similar to that of the GeForce 8800 GTS 512M. It remains to be seen if the GPU uses the newer 55nm silicon fabrication process.

Another re-badge cool!

Mussels Jul 28, 2008 06:17 AM

heh whats the bet all it is, is the 1.10v bios mod has been applied. the core/shaders are very similar to mine, and the ram would be if mine OC'd at all.

Are these going to support Tri-SLI, kinda like the 8800GTS to 9800GTX update?

its possible, the image doesnt let us see unfortunately.

ShadowFold Jul 28, 2008 09:21 AM

Tri SLi is the whole point behind this afaik.

HybridPower?

-Tk yawns-

Nvidia should seriously get sued for rebadging their whole line of G92s.

KieranD Jul 28, 2008 01:20 PM

the 9000series was a tweak of the 8000series so a 9800gt is a tweak of a tweak

its silly how much more can they tweak or rebadge cards

they expect us to upgrade to a new card from our old 8000series like the 8800gt or 8800gts 512mb when its a total waste of time for such a small increase in power

Mussels Jul 28, 2008 01:22 PM

i still think the 8800GT/GTS is the best nvidia card out at the moment. Note that i dont say fastest.

its not an increase of power, the power is latent.

[I.R.A]_FBi Jul 28, 2008 01:26 PM

but looking back .. how much would a *800GT card cost prior to the GPU revolution?

wolf2009 Jul 28, 2008 01:26 PM

This is just a way for Nvidia to make money . With 8800GT dropping to $100 recently , Nvidia came up with rebadged card , added tri-SLI and hybrid power and they can sell it for more than 8800GT to increase their profits. And it costs them less to make it than 8800GT .

Megasty Jul 28, 2008 03:57 PM

So just where is this card going to sit anyway, $150 or less. 3-way SLI will be kinda pointless with this when the 9800GTX is more powerful & yet in the same range price-wise.

...not to say that 3-way SLI isn't a pointless gimmick anyway

I'm almost sure that the cost difference of the new PCB+cooler is higher than the one between 55nm and 65 nm.

TBH this card looks like a good card for the price segment it will be. With the new reference cooling it should OC better, while being cooler and quieter at the same time.

Rather I think they expect you to do your research and buy the product that suits your needs.

Nvidia didn't need to release any cards worth 'upgrading,' to, until recently with the GT200.

The rebadging/rehashing of the 8800s served multiple purposes. It brought the same potent (and some new) products to the market, that ran more efficiently, and a cheaper cost; it also revitalised the awareness of their products.

PCpraiser100 Jul 28, 2008 05:18 PM

Seriously, I just don't get why NVIDIA is still downsizing on their once cool 9000 series. The GTX 200 is what they should be focussing on as their bloody GTX 280 costs $500.

candle_86 Jul 28, 2008 06:28 PM

because the 9600GT doesnt hold its own in the 150 price segment, and the 88xx cards are looked at as old tech by the normal moron. As for the GTX series whats the point, make a 144 shader card with a 384bit bus? There isnt alot really to do here

trt740 Jul 28, 2008 07:38 PM

come on WTF

usntom Jul 28, 2008 08:13 PM

thought nvidia was on the 260 and 280 cards??? oh well

Megasty Jul 28, 2008 08:16 PM

They're just wrapping up the 9 series, that's all.

DrPepper Jul 29, 2008 12:14 AM

Would have been a good buy for me at christmas :) I would have got 3.

marsey99 Jul 29, 2008 02:35 PM

good old nv, just when you thought you understood all their renamed cards they go and rebadge the 88gts 512 as another card ????

so, this is what they are doing with all the 98gtx they have left now the 98gtx+ is out??

Hayder_Master Jul 30, 2008 07:22 AM

what about price , and we can't say it like 8800gt cuz it is come with g94
