Corsair Dominator DDR3 Memory Sets New World Record
 

Corsair informed today that its Dominator DDR3 memory modules have again shattered the world record for frequency. The record was set using the Asus ROG Rampage Extreme motherboard (Intel X48 chipset) and Corsair Dominator memory, utilizing Corsair’s award-winning DHX technology. The world record of 2580 MHz was reached at latency settings of 9-9-9-24 using a Corsair Dominator DDR3 memory module. These results were achieved with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 processor overclocked to a breathtaking 645MHz Front-Side Bus frequency. The results are verified by CPU-Z, an industry standard for verifying overclocking results, and are viewable here.

Corsair previously announced on May 20th its world record of 2462MHz and has now raised the record up to 118MHz faster. Corsair achieved these results as part of ongoing lab experiments on the effect of temperature on memory performance. The 2580MHz memory speed was achieved with the entire test platform -- including motherboard, CPU, chip set, and memory -- chilled to -20 degrees Celsius.

From the screen shot, that looks to show cpu speed. Of course, from the article, Im wrong. Nice speeds though.

That's pretty insane speed for sure! It'll be nice in the future when memory can run that speed w/o needing to be chilled to -20C though. I know that interests some of you for max OC and WR's, but I want to see it on AIR! And someday I will, but I'm sure it won't be DDR3...I could be wrong tho.

Pretty nice achievement for both, the CPU speed (FSB) and the RAM's frequency. But since when is CPU-Z an "industry standard"? :confused:

you;d be surprised. a few video card companies even use ATI tool to test for problems, i remember a recall at one point (early GF8 days?) where it was mentioned the cards would fail extended ATI tool testing

Too bad intel is starting to go for higher multis lower FSB for nahalem.

This is great, with speed in mind, as they will get closer to record FSBs and lower timings.I;d like to see DDR3 memory with low timings as that would be kind of cool.

+1 on that. Right now getting DDR3 doeesnt make a great deal of sense because of that and its high price. Afterall DDR2-1066 still beats DDR3-1333.

that is not longer a FSB, its called QPI Quik path interconect
and its spelled nehalem

i hope Bloomfield Memmory controler can handel this speed or its tottaly useless

Yes, however DDR3 is definitely going to be the way of the future soon, especially when FSB speeds are on the move along with multi-GPU platforms. With this record, Corsair will rain supreme on marketing due to interest and other companies like OCZ will attempt to compete with Corsair at lower prices while holding their own at performance. The day after this record was broken, the price of the DDR3 OCZ Gold 1600 2GB Kit lowered from 300 to 241 bucks over here in Canada, the store owner said there was no sales going on. So.....

I wonder why the other settings aren't jacked too. With the entire system at -20ºc they could have had a lot of fun with CPU and FSB speeds. : (
