Building gaming PC need advice :)
 

So I'm making a computer, and I went to techsupportforums.com to get what I needed, and I did thanks to them.

But I would like to get a second opinion, and I asked around for who else is just as good, and a bunch of people metioned you guys.
i'll be using it for gaming primarily, and that would be WoW.

I know little about computers, so I will have trouble answering questions haha, but I'm learning so yea.

I'm willing to upgrade a few things, right now that adds up to like 1400 I can probably throw in another 200 but I'd have to wait another 2 weeks : /

But like I said, I know near to nothing about manufactures, products etc..but I'm trying to learn haha.

But from what I see, looks good. I think you might wanna grab a quad core, but it is your choice. The new Q8200 is out, take a look at that.

Very nice build, evenly matched and great price i bet. I hear that E8500 screams.

HDD (Seagate 250GB) & CPU cooler (AC Freezer Pro 7) don't make sense. Those are old & relatively poor performing parts.

Everything looks good except for the cooler. I had bad luck with pushpin coolers and would recommend a screw mount cooler. I had a very positive experience with the Tunic. Lay down a few more bucks and get a cooler with a real mounting mechanism.

The system looks good, though that 4870 is seriously overkill for WOW or similar games. I would go for a 3870 or 3850 if you want ATI, since it they will both more than handle WOW, and you'll save yourself $100. You may also want to check out some of the good midrange Nvidia cards, like the 8800GT, 9600gt and 9800gt. Good price to performance ratio with all of these cards.

thanks for the quick responses, and yea I can probably upgrade the cooler, and do you guys think getting a quad would be worth it for my circumstances?

Don't bother with a quad for games.

wow could run on 800MHZ 64mb radeon 9500...
unless you are going for the better revised 8600, just go 8400, the 8500 is just an overclocked 8400. Take the money you save from that and step up to a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, get full 1080p(1200p).
I also recommend 2x4850 CF, or 3870x2.

Nice build.

Though, if I were you I would save some money on some of the parts.

-Graphics card: HD4850 will serve you as well as the HD4870. I wouldn't take anything below this from Ati. A Nvidia's 8800GT maybe, but I think the Radeon is worth it. Eventually, when (if ever) you need more power you can always go CrossFire, when the HD4850s are going to be far cheaper and CrossFire even better implemented.

-CPU: Definately IMO a E8400 over the E8500, 3 Ghz vs. 3.16, and you save $20, use them on the cooler. As of Quads don't bother unless you do a lot of rendering: 3DSMax, Maya, Photoshop, etc.

As a side note I have to dissagree with 3870x2. I don't know if you are going to play new games, but 1920x1200 will force you to upgrade your graphics card more often and won't give you a better gaming experience at all. About HD4850x2 NOW or the HD3870x2, hell no!

Keep the money you save for future upgrades.

I agree with the above statement. I see no reason to buy the highest rated model of anything. one step down from the top will save you 33% on the price of the card.

Ok, so upgrade the fan, downgrade the card/CPU to save money.
