ASUS Packs 1 GB Memory onto GeForce 9400 GT

ASUS prepared a new entry-level video card based on the GeForce 9400 GT with 1 GB memory. The EN9400GT/HTP/1G card from ASUS comes equipped with 1 GB of DDR2 memory. The card is based on the entry-level GeForce 9400 GT graphics core. The core is clocked at 550 MHz with 800 MHz for the memory and 1375 MHz for the shaders, 16 in number. It uses a 128-bit wide memory interface. The card supports NVIDIA SLI multi-GPU technology and features standard DVI, D-Sub and S-Video/Composite outputs. Given the performance band GeForce 9400 GT falls in, features such as 1 GB of memory and SLI make it a novelty product aimed at the entry-level market.

Honestly, whats with all these low end cards packed with ridiculous amounts of memory?

wolf2009 Sep 15, 2008 04:36 PM

these low end cards with 1 gb memory are ridiculous

why did it even make the news ?

[I.R.A]_FBi Sep 15, 2008 04:37 PM

whatever for? lol

and i cant get a 4850 with 1gb (for cheeep :) )

vrm4 Sep 15, 2008 04:47 PM

I guess it makes them sound faster.

So you could go " wtf ", so novice people reading this get to know that ridiculous amounts of memory for hardware that doesn't really benefit much from, should be avoided.

I predict this card will rival the HD 3650 1GB GDDR2 in terms of performance punch.

its becuase whenever you talk to someone who knows nothing about computers, they will tell you they have a 512mb graphics card like thats the important part of it ;)

 that explains it

Darkrealms Sep 15, 2008 05:22 PM

Well mines got 896mb .i.. LoL
I can't get my GTX260 with 1gb, doh.

cool_recep Sep 15, 2008 08:57 PM

I thought that was only in Turkey. :D

What about crap technologies like HyperMemory and TurboCache?

newtekie1 Sep 15, 2008 09:02 PM

The worst part is that the 512MB GDDR3 version will probably be cheaper and perform better, hell I'd even take a 256MB GDDR3 version over this 1GB card.

I hate how marketting is, it is just like the clock speed issue with CPUs. There are still people out there that think clock speed is all that matters.

A 128MB GDDR5 card would probably give better results than this card.

1/8 as much memory would be more than this card could ever need. 16 shaders is nothing, this can't even rival a 7600GT which was fine at 128MB.

Not exactly slower than the 7600GT.:p
But you get the point.

I wonder if this crap can even keep up with a 3650 256MB DDR2.

Depends on how much this will cost, the new S3 is likely to be the better buy.:nutkick:

For a manufacturer it means that your average joe is going to buy it over the rivals and spend that little bit extra because they think its going to be loads better.
On a card like that 256mb / 512mb is more than enough
