Need a new PSU, how many watts/amps?
 

I want a single +12v rail, quiet, and reliable psu for ~$100. Components that will be powered:

-mobo = EVGA 780i
-cpu = e7200
---cooled by CoolIT Eliminator [TEC/liquid combo, rated to use 40+ watts]
-gpu = 9600gt
---cooled by zalman vf1000
-anything listed in my specs that doesn't contradict the above

I overclock a lot and want some wiggle room for future upgrades and adding new hard-drives etc.

I was looking at these:
PC Power & Cooling S61EPS
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX

What do you recommend? Do I even need that many watts/amps?
The corsair was tempting because I have a $10 promo code for it as well.

either are excellent choices... though pcp&c has always won my heart over corsair..

I love PCPnC and all but go for the Corsair if you got the extra change. Little more headroom.

yeah if those are your choices and you're comfortable you need look no further. i like the pc power. but if you feel you might need more watts in the future, the 750w might be what you want to get. whichever you prefer. for my needs the pc would be fine. more then enough

another good choice right now would be the Antec EA650. 650w on sale for $79. it doesn't have cable sleeves and they are long. so its kind of a project, but its not bad. and great for a full tower case

thats a good in depth review. they said it performed better then the old seasonic made EA500. so far as all that electrical tech stuff goes :confused:

anyway either way i'd say these are good choices for you whatever you pick

Thanks for all the input so far, I'll be ordering in a few days. One other thing I'm looking for is a good warranty. Anybody have experience with pc pnc's or corsair's rma department?

I think I'm leaning towards the Corsair one right now.

@chromedome: thanks for the suggestion there, but I don't want anything with more than one +12v rail.

pcp&c has a 10 year warranty and i believe the very very few people that have dealt with their customer services have been very pleased.

they are so confident in their psu's that they have a 10 year warranty and have a small but awesome customer service team to deal with any faulty psus (the chances are so slim of that, that it's ridiculous, as every psu is indivually hand-tested to make sure its perfect) and refund you any money for any damage the psu might've caused.

That has pretty much swayed me towards saving money for a 750w pcp&c silencer :cry:

750W might be a overkill right now.

I'm using Q9450 overclocked to 3.2 Ghz, HD4870 + HD4850 , and the peak power consumtion is 360W

I would go for the Corsair 750TX. I just bought one, and I'm very impressed. The single 12v rail is very stable, and I've always been impressed with Corasair's customer service. You really can't go wrong with either one of those options though. The choice b/t those two psu's is exactly the same dilemma I had a week ago.

Really fits? I would've thought corsair because of the significantly larger fan. Do you have both?

Also, would 750w really be too much overkill? I mean, would the 610w give enough overhead for most upgrades I might consider in the next couple years, like something in the gtx260 or 280 range?

pc power designed theirs to be silent and have enough airflow to cool properly. a 120mm-140mm fan is not needed and is just a waste of space.

750 is perfect i think. you also gotta remember that pc power and cooling underates their psu's so that 750 is more like 850-900.

I wouldn't consider a 750w psu overkill, more like plenty of room to upgrade. Besides at $80 its a steal. Now a 1000w or 1200w would be a huge overkill lol

My corsair tx750 runs my 280gtx, 9800gtx, 4 sata hds, 8 case fans ect and maintains over 12v on the 12v rail. I can't hear the fan on it at all, of course between my 8 case fans and 2 video fans it's no wonder!
I'd say just get the corsair, you'll be future proofed for awhile, and it's great value for the money.

k, if I can find a 750w pcp for anywhere near the price of the 750w corsair, I'm going for it. Otherwise, it's the corsair.
