Intel e6550 2.33 GHZ or AMD 4800+ 2.5 GHZ? Which is faster?
I dont know much about processors. Which is faster? and why?
:) |
Easy question with a less then obvious answer.
While the AMD chip is operating at a Higher Frequency it is still the slower chip. The e6550 is capable of performing more instructions per cycle. So while it is slower frequency wise, the amount of work it can do in 1 cycle is much greater then the AMD chip. So the e6550 while slower in frequency is a much more powerful chip then the AMD CHip. |
oh. tnx. so should i then change in using the intel processor instead?
|
Since you're new here. You should post your system specs under your name.
If you are looking to upgrade Intel is the leader right now. |
oh. ok
|
The 4800+ is actually comparable to a Pentium E2180 or E2200.
It's that much slower than a C2D. |
wow. so its basically not all about the frequency.

intel E6550 is roughly on par with an AMD 5600+ Windsor performance wise. of course the E6550 overclocks better if thats what you'll be doing
the intel E4600 is similar, but with less cache and a smaller FSB then the E6550 having less cache (2mb) on the AMD then the E6550 doesn't mean much because the 5600+ has an integrated memory controller which helps its performance when it comes to raw performance they're all similar with an edge going to the E6550 and AMD 5600+ depends on what you're doing with them sometimes, too i like the AMD out of all of them. its a fine workhorse :nutkick: little green AMD guy =] |
