Setting up a home network.
Ok I've spend most of today centralising all the media in the house onto my pc, So I was wondering how do I allow the rest of the family to view it easily because they arn't very tech savy.
thanks |
Share it, set permissions, and map a network drive on each of their computers to it.
For more details, let us know which OS(es) you're running on the other machines in your home. |
Cheers jiz but I've set permissions etc and I can share files but I was wondering if there was an easier way to do it because it asks for the computer name and password and I would rather it didn't.

You are always going to have to deal with entering usernames and passwords unless all the machines are using the same usernames and passwords, or you create all the users on the server.
You can set up a batch file that will map the drives for you, and enter the username and password for you. The net use syntax for mapping a shared drive: net use {drive letter:} \\{machine name}\{share name} {password} /user:{domain\user name} |
hmm, is there any programs like that ?

DrPepper, you can use simple file sharing in Vista similiar as to in XP and I'm pretty sure you won't need a username or password. I'm not 100% sure on this as I run XP here, but I looked up a few guides online. Does this help at all?
