just reinstalled ut3.all settings are maxed out
and every 5 or so seconds it stutters whilst playing

when i had my old x1950pro gfx this game never did this

now most of my games stutter such as farcry 2,the witcher, crysis

would my hard drive be the cause of this
or is it something else

help guys

If the motherboard has built in graphics make sure they are disabled in the bios.

stuartb04 Mar 7, 2009 12:31 PM

it disables itself when external gfx is inserted

DrPepper Mar 7, 2009 12:32 PM

I'm assuming it stutters even on low graphics ?

stuartb04 Mar 7, 2009 12:35 PM

not really.i dont play all games on high settings

surely my system is capable to play these games on high

DrPepper Mar 7, 2009 12:40 PM

I'd think it would be able to play them especially at 1680 x 1050.

Are you using the latest drivers ?

stuartb04 Mar 7, 2009 12:41 PM

yes i do
just recently updated

I had a Sapphire Radeon 4850 which caused horrendous stutter with my 6000 windsor. Apparently some have dodgy powerplay settings. BIOS change could be a possibility. Also, I seem to recall UT3 has some trouble stutter wise with certain sound setups. Are you using onboard or a dedicated soundcard?

stuartb04 Mar 7, 2009 12:46 PM

onboard sound

DrPepper Mar 7, 2009 12:46 PM

Use fraps and it will tell you the framerate. Try tell me the average frames you get, It could be that you might not be able to play them all maxed idk how powerful the 4850 is.

stuartb04 Mar 7, 2009 12:56 PM

averaged about 45fps in ut3 with v-sync on
just noticed it even sticks on the main menu
when moving the mouse around

the fps does drop to about 20fps when it starts to stutter

Thats why it would stutter if it goes below 20 fps.

Get GPU-Z running in the background on the monitoring tab and see what the core speed is when it stutters. As has been said previously, the card could wrongly be going into a power saving state cuasing the game to stutter.

sussed it guys

used driver sweeper to uninstall all my ati drivers

reinstalled them.and voila.running smooth again

thanks for all your suggestions tho

I don't believe any computer does something like that. You always have to disable it yourself either in the bios or from device manager
