Can't wait for DX11 hardware?

This thread is for people who seem too anxious to wait for DX11 hardware, alongside with Model Shader 5.0. Enjoy!

I can't wait :D Real life here we come :respect:

KainXS May 1, 2009 12:35 PM

neither can i but DX11 will be able to run the unsupported code on the GPU instead of the CPU if your card dosen't support DX11 also

I want ray tracing badly on the next Portal game, along side with Half-Life 2 and Crysis. This feature will also add stratedy in multiplayer too.

I wish there were any good games that are fun to play.

To me BF2 will be eternally great fun, old or not. The depth of playability in this game is astounding.

Besides that, I woudl say there are quite a few good games that are fun to play...its just that they dont last very long.

a_ump May 6, 2009 04:35 PM

yep, it seems all game types have already been made and then again, so a new game really has to bring something to the table for it to be appealing to me. i usually end up playing a game that i haven't played in years if i'm bored, like now i reinstalled X3: Reunion.

If w1zzard made a game about TPU, I think I would buy it lol

lol tens of thousands of hours of work only for 1000 people to buy it, yeah I think w1z would toally go for it  jk.

yeah I trying my best to holdout for dx11 hardware. I have some incentive in that I flat brok atm. but I want my next rig designed around dx11 so hopefully by the time the first good(matter of interpretation) dx11 game is out I'll have the money saved up.

kurosagi01 May 6, 2009 05:33 PM

please don't tell me we would need to buy brand new graphics card etc for DX11 ¬¬ if so then i'm not really looking forward to it..honestly why release it so soon??theres not even many DX10 games released yet and microsoft already planned to release DX11??

you will but since DX11 will be able to run unsupported effects via GPGPU instead of using the CPU, your card should be able to do some DX11 effects also

kinda like how a cpu takes up the slack for some missing DX10.1 effects when you use a DX10 card but this will make the GPU run it instead, which should be faster but still slow

they have said that DX11 will enable cards to do physics just like cuda, but does anyone know if older cards like the X1900's will be supported or is it only ati stream and cuda cards, I'm not very sure

you have an excellent point there. consider how much you need a dx10 card with today's games - at the end of life of dx10. i expect similar will happen with dx11. too many gamers wont upgrade and developers/publishers wont risk lower sales just because game x requires hardware y

a_ump May 6, 2009 06:40 PM

i agree, and i'd think they should wait on DX 11 until dx10 is well established like they did with dx9, i mean most game today are coded for dx9 and then(i don't know the correct term) but basically dx10 is added on top of the dx9 from what i've read, that's why dx10 performs worse than dx9, though if a game was programmed around dx10 instead, i thk it would perform better than a dx9 counter part as dx10 was intended to do. course now we have dx11 coming out, and i seriously don't see it taking hold or any games for it for another 8-12months after windows 7 is released and dx11 official. mind you i just mean the first game. Though i wonder IF programmers and developers will go dx11 and dx9, and leave dx10 behind as dx10 hardware is expected to still be playable with dx11.

I know this sounds crazy but publishers should grow balls and make games DX10 only. ALOT of people will complain because thats all they do.

Then they would loose a lot of sales from people like me who REFUSE to "upgrade" to Vista (and there are a lot of us out there). That wouldn't be a smart move for them as they are in business to make money.

I know the amount of gamers who refuse to move is rediculous. With win7 there should be more people moving over.

kurosagi01 May 6, 2009 07:15 PM

i really do believe it is pointless..i mean us consumer spend loads of money just to get a playable FPS on DX10 games such as crysis...and what happens?? they decide to launch DX11..?? so what are we are going to do..say somebody just upgraded there system today to play crysis at playable FPS on DX10 and blowed out like $800(£900??) to get to that level; then what happens then?? NEW DX11 CHECK THESE NEW GRAPH CARD THAT SUPPORTS IT price is $*** and the user that just bought his new system be like..."wait wtf?? i just upgraded my system just now..i won't have the money to upgrade again.." take it to a new gamer point of view, they be dissappointed they would need to spend more money again just to play the game,i know they don't have to but if theres a game that came out that was only DX11 and they wanted play it..they would have to spend more money again, which i find unfair because not all of us is made of money...i think they should improve DX10 gameplay so its actually playable even on low-end DX10 card such as ATI 3650 etc..at this point i'm not going go for DX11.

Studabaker May 6, 2009 07:15 PM

I can't wait. I've always been a generation behind due to money (never spent more than $220 on a video card) and stubbornness. This time, though, I'm ready to give up all my hopes and dreams for an $800 video card.
