Novac Places 2.5 inch HDDs in Expansion Card Slots
 

In case you have completely run out of 3.5", and 5.25" drive bays to cram in the last of your hard drives, and have a few slots next to your RAID card left, you would probably like this enclosure. Novac designed what it calls "PCI mounting kit", that uses one expansion card slot to hold a 2.5" HDD. What's more, it even provides a door that allows users to add or remove the drive from behind the case, without having to remove it. This perhaps is also its biggest USP, as 2.5" drives, especially SSDs, are very pocketable. Novac plans to sell this for about $36 a piece.

Thats a cracking idea - only thing id consider would be possible vibration transfer through the board and into the case?

Not really, back in the XT days hard disks commonly were found in such cards already. In fact, they managed to hang full height 3.5" disks in there.

So I take it the motherboard just sort of "distributes" any vibration out and nulls it?

2.5" hard drives barely vibrate to begin with.

agreed. i can see it being VERY useful in ITX/mATX builds.

Great innovation IMO, making it removable from the bracket, would be good for those who struggle to find spots for their 2.5" drives I guess

Ooo err ... now this does look interesting.

I wonder about cooling though? My SSDs run about 10ºC hotter than old 3.5" HDDs, and putting next to graphics cards and away from direct airflow isn't going to improve that.

Depends whether your case has any side fans i suppose.

And it'd also depend on how worried you are about the temps of SSDs. They're currently in the 40º-45º range; I don't know what their thermal limit is but I'd be confident they could handle another 10º.

i was think the internal storage should be not move , just for need case

Dam, now that's innovative, I like it! But does it use the PCI slot or do you need to use SATA? Because for example, my Antec 900 can hold 7 hard-drives and my Asus mobo has 6 SATA ports.

Nice idea for a Media PC along with one of those integrated LITE cpu motherboards.

Possibly slap a SSD in there.
