The inner most connector is rumoured to conflict with the fan placement, hence the stacked power connectors. AMD solved this in the 6900 series by cutting (literally) a corner of the plastic.

I mean come on, a 500$ CPU with a 340$ GPU? (Cobra config).
That's not what I would call a "power gaming" pc :D

2500k + GTX580 would trump that AND cost less.

What do you mean, minus the VRAM? 5970 has 2x 1GB, not 2GB. It doesn't add up in crossfire.
