Sure, use anything you can. This way, your PC will "evolve" over the next 3, 5 or even 10 years - much better than a complete new PC every couple years - and much cheaper in the long run - and learn a whole bunch about computers in general and yours in particular along the way. A new mobo combo now - then when the budget permits a new monitor, then a new video card - great Christmas gift ideas, BTW.

Little bits at a time will keep you higher up on the power curve for extended periods of time - a good thing. I call it staying at the scabbed over edge - can't afford the cutting or even bleeding edge every year, but I can stay close without going obsolete.

I'm lucky though - my wife likes computers!
