Just buff out the scratch. I never said it would be easy, but it will work, if you work for it.
Data is actually on the back side of the label. So the laser needs to reach it. Any scratch can be buffed out(almost), as long as it isn't on the label side.
Even the nasty XBOX360 groove...although those take soem real serious work(dremel, toothpaste, and white buffing tip

. I don't suggest that unless it's really super bad though, and you are willing to lose the disc.).
There's been a few that I've used some purple filler stuff on(GOOP!), that dries nice and clear, but always toothpaste first.
