I think the big deal is this:

"designed to decode – in parallel – large numbers of network video streams in different resolutions and formats"

Also, it will do 16*1080 if you put enough "boards" in it.

Probably it's more flexible and versatile than AMD's eyefinity or Nvidia's mosaic.
